Amazing Break
Tuesday, January 6th, 2009I don’t know about you, but we here at Michigan Tech had a very fulfilling break (with lots of snow). For me, break is an opportunity to not only spend time with family and over eat, but time to enjoy the outdoors to its fullest….maybe even get out of town. My break went something like this: eat, sleep, ski, open gifts, eat, sleep, snow blow, eat, sleep, and take a trip to Chicago for the New Year.
We had 109″ of snow in December according to John Dee, which is just 10″ inches shy of our 119″ high and more than 50″ above our average for December. The skiing has been INCREDIBLE, and Mont Ripley is full bore open. Christmas Day Mont Ripley was closed, and it was a great day to ski some very fluffy new snow without a lot of competition. To boot, it was one of the most clear and sunny days we’ve had here in a while…it was very much a blissful experience for me. Once again, a very indescribable feeling.
Jen approaching the top.
The view couldn’t be beat!
It drops off pretty quick!
Deep turns
For those of you that have kept on this blog, I mention the “white room” from time to time. There IS a skier in there, and he’s officially in his own little white room.
I wish I did THIS for a living, but getting to write about it for a living isn’t so bad either :).
I wasn’t the only one having a blast. Buster was insanely funny.
His little legs never hit bottom….it was more of a swimming downhill motion. Quite funny.
We moved onto a flatter part of the hill with less snow, but the skiing was a bit less challenging. This photo is of Jen, my wife, at 5 months pregnant! Don’t tell the doctor.
Buster has fun chasing us…………
However, this was the scene later that day. Note the fetal position. I’m sure he was thinking “why did I do this!”.
Needless to say, it was an amazing break. I am quite excited for everyone to return as Monday, January 12 begins the building of the month long statues for Winter Carnival! Can’t believe it, and I can’t wait.
