This survey will provide baseline data to help identify the services that are most needed to support work-life blending, as well as to assess the quality of work-life blending that all of us in the Michigan Tech community experience. All responses to the survey are completely anonymous. The report for the survey will be made available on the WorkLife website.

Your feedback is important as it allows us to address topics of importance and provide resources and services that are valuable to the campus community. The WorkLife Advisory Committee appreciates your assistance.

Policy 2.6021 Employee Separation/Transfer Announced

P&PThe University Policy Office (UPO) and Human Resources would like to announce the issuance of Policy 2.6021 Employee Separation/Transfer.

This policy was issued to ensure that employee transfers and separations within the University are handled in a fair, consistent, and professional manner with minimal disruption to ongoing work functions.  The policy includes processes and documentation that is required to facilitate the process.

Human Resources Announces University Background Checks Policy

P&P   The University Policy Office (UPO) and Human Resources  would like to announce the issuance of Policy 2.6022 University Background Checks effective August 1, 2015.

This policy was issued by Human Resources in order to provide guidance for conducting consistent and fair background checks and verifications. The policy supports the University’s efforts to minimize institutional risk, employ the best practices when hiring and assist hiring authorities in making sound hiring decisions.

This Policy applies to all non-student University positions for which an offer of employment or appointment is made on or after August 1, 2015.

All job postings will include background check requirements for the position. Candidates for employment who fail to participate fully or provide inaccurate information will be eliminated from consideration for the position.  All offers to the selected candidate for all posted positions, as well as promotions outside of the current department or department transfers within the University, will be contingent upon the results of the background check.  Human Resources will lead the process of reviewing any adverse information revealed from the background check.

Employment of short-term, casual, seasonal employees who are new hires or re-hired more than 9 months after their most recent last date of employment will also be contingent upon the results of a background check.



New Policy Announced

P&P  The University Policy Office (UPO) would like to announce the issuance of Policy 2.6017 Overtime Compensation and/or Compensatory Time Off, effective May 1, 2015.

This policy was issued by Human Resources in order to provide guidance for the reporting of overtime hours worked, and to ensure the University’s compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) with regards to overtime payment for regular, non-exempt employees who are not subject to a bargaining unit contract.


New Policy Announced

P&PThe University Policy Office (UPO) would like to announce the issuance of Policy 2.1013 Preferred First Name.

In a manner consistent with the University’s educational mission and related research, service, and outreach activities and in order to support Goal 1 of the University’s Strategic Plan, Registrars and Human Resources have collaborated to develop and issue this new policy, published on the University Policy Office website.  This policy inteneded to provide guidelines for students, faculty and staff who wish to use a name other than their legal name to identify themselves across university systems, where feasible.

New Policy Announced

P&PThe University Policy Office (UPO) would like to announce the issuance of Policy 2.5006 Use of Reserved University Outside Grounds.

In a manner consistent with the University’s educational mission and related research, service, and outreach activities and in order to support Board of Control Policies 7.7, 12.2, and 12.3, Student Activities, Facilities Management, and Public Safety and Police Services have collaborated to develop and issue this new policy. The policy is intended to provide guidelines for affiliated and non-affiliated groups and persons who wish to use designated outside areas on Michigan Tech’s campus.

This new policy also covers Distribution of Promotional Materials and will replace current Policy 2.5004 Distributing of Promotional Materials.

New Policy Announced

3/18/2015 – The Human Resources Office issued Policy 2.6020 Hiring for Work Outside the United States.

This new policy supports University compliance and accountability with U.S. and foreign country tax laws and regulations when hiring individuals to perform work outside the United States.  All departments who may need to hire individuals to work outside the country should familiarize themselve with this policy.
