Saturday, October 6 marks the start of Homecoming Week! Homecoming is an old Michigan Tech tradition sponsored by Student Activities that welcomes students back to school with athletic games, fun events, and even Homecoming King and Queen coronation! This year, events will take place as follows:

2012 Fall Career Fair

It’s that time of year again – time to break out those resumes and fancy business suits to get it all ready for the Fall Career Fair! The Career Fair is a huge job fair sponsored by Michigan Tech Career Services and Alpha Kappa Psi that hosts hundreds of companies who are looking to hire college students like you for co-ops, internships, and even full time positions! This year, the Fall Career Fair will take place on Tuesday, October 2 from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm in the multipurpose room of the SDC. In preparation for this big event, Career Services is hosting a plethora of career development education opportunities this week that include:

Why Do a Co-Op or Internship?
Hear a presentation given by your fellow students about their own personal experiences while on a co-op or internship. The presentation will be on Tuesday, September 22 at 6:00 pm in Fisher 129

Interview Skills Week
Get help preparing for your interviews from the professionals in Career Services on September 24-28 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm in room 220 of the Career Services Center (second floor or the Admin Building)

There will also be the annual Evening with Industry dinner taking place on Monday, October 1 from 5:15 pm – 8:30 pm in the MUB Ballroom. This awesome event gives students an opportunity to interact and share a meal with companies in an informal setting and gain more experience being involved in the corporate world. To purchase tickets for this event, please visit the Society of Women Engineers Office in MUB 106 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Commuter Movie Night!

Get ready for our first social of the year! We will be screening The Hunger Games on Friday, September 21 at 7:00 pm in the Commuter Lounge! The Commuter Lounge is located in the MUB room 106. Complimentary pizza, popcorn, and various other snacks will be provided. This is a great way to hang out, watch an awesome movie, and meet other commuter students. And don’t forget, the event is FREE, so feel free to come and go as you please, but please RSVP at commuters@mtu.edu!


Parade of Nations

The Parade of Nations, a multicultural festival and parade sponsored by Michigan Tech’s International Programs and Services, will be taking place on Saturday, September 22 at 11:00 am! This event is a celebration of the all of the different cultures and ethnicities that we have here in the Keweenaw. The parade begins at 11:00 am in Downtown Hancock and finishes at the Dee Stadium in Downtown Houghton. The festival will begin at 12:00 pm and will include a plethora of cultural dances, exotic costumes, enticing food, and live music that commemorates all of the different nations that are represented here in the Copper Country.  Don’t forget, admission is free!  So come and join the fun with this friendly,  fascinating, and free event!

“Gay? Fine By Me” T-shirt Giveaway and Photo
Keweenaw Pride will distribute “Gay? Fine By Me” t-shirts on Thursday, September 13 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm in the MUB and from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm in Fisher Hall. The shirts are free and go quickly, so stop by early to pick one up. The annual campus photo will be taken on Friday, September 14 at noon in the MUB circle (by the clock).
