Polymers and Coatings Technology
The graduate (MS) program in Polymers and Coatings Technology of EMU is among very
few such programs offered in the U.S. and well recognized by the industries. The curriculum
(30-32 credit hours) is designed to provide graduates with the background necessary for
career in polymers, paints, coatings, plastics, composites, rubber, adhesives, inks and related
fields. Graduates pursue careers in research and development, technical, manufacturing, sales
and marketing, consultancy or can become entrepreneurs with small business in the above
100% placement of graduates: Consistent record, campus recruiting.

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field (with 1 year of physical chemistry,
organic chemistry, and instrumentation) or equivalent.

Awards and Accolades for EMU Polymer & Coatings Tech. Students
Graduate students of Polymers and Coatings (PC) program of College of Technology have made
significant achievements and demonstrated their outstanding competitive edge at national and
international events and programs, making EMU proud, while inspiring new graduate students.
Ozlem Akdogan, participated in three conferences to share her research outcomes and recognized for her
excellence in research. Besides awarded for the “best abstract award” at EMU’s
graduate research conference 2017, she was selected for “Outstanding graduate
research award in polymer science and engineering” by American Chemical Society
during its national meeting at San Francisco, in April 2017. Her research poster was
also among top 10 out of 600 posters at the International Polymer Science and Tech.
conference –MACRO 2017, in India.
Himanshu Manchanda and Forough Zareanshahraki
received outstanding technical poster award and $350
prize at the 2017 annual FOCUS conference of Detroit
Society for Coatings Technology, held in Troy, MI
during May 2017. Their technical posters were highly
appreciated by the committee.
Each year, Powder Coatings Institute (PCI) of Ohio, an
membership-based professional non-profit organization,
invites applications for coveted scholarship for deserving
students from across the United States. This year two EMU
students – Raviteja Kommineni and Shiyin Yu are selected
for this $5000 scholarship that will help support their
education at EMU.
EMU Polymers &
Coatings students were very fortunate for their selection for
summer internship program at Sherwin Williams, Cleveland, OH –
the largest paint company in North America. One of the EMU
summer intern, Harshit Gupta was selected from among 20 interns
from across the country for a $1000 scholarship, while Diana
Rodriguez was recognized with 3rd prize for poster award.
We are very thrilled and proud of this continued excellence by our students in various events and for
building a strong national and international reputation of Polymers and Coatings program and of EMU.
PC faculty is committed to provide outstanding mentorship and graduate experience to our students.
EMU’s Polymers and Coatings program is among a very few such niche programs in the country with high
visibility and reputation for excellence in education and research.
