Michigan Tech Partners with Army Corps of Engineers Environmental Lab

Michigan Technological University and the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Environmental Laboratory in Vicksburg have signed an educational and research partnership agreement that opens the door to a broad range of research projects, faculty exchanges and student internships. Michigan Tech’s planned Great Lakes Research Center (GLRC) will house the new partnership on campus.

Baja Team Wins Award for Most Combined Points in All Three Baja SAE Events

For the first time in school history Michigan Tech has won the Mike Schmidt Memorial Iron Team Award in the SAE International Collegiate Design Series Baja Competition. The Iron Team title is awarded to the team with the most combined points after all three North American Baja SAE events. The Michigan Tech Blizzard Baja Enterprise team had won the 8th place finish in Alabama and a 2nd place finish in Oregon, and on Saturday June 13, they one 6th overall at the Wisconsin contest.

Students Break 1,000 mpg in SAE Supermileage Competition

Michigan Tech’s team surprised everyone last weekend by wringing a whopping 1,140 miles per gallon out of their low, sleek, custom-made vehicle in the 2009 SAE Supermileage competition. The effort was enough to earn them a silver in the 25-team field in just their second year at the event, held June 4-5 at the Eaton Corporation Marshall Proving Grounds, in Lower Michigan.

Richard E. Honrath 1961-2009 Memorial

To honor Richard and to support his vision of scholarship, a memorial fund has been established.  This fund will provide support for Richard E. Honrath Memorial Lecture and for undergraduate and graduate students whose major and/or research demonstrate a commitment to protecting the environment and/or the pursuit of knowledge about our earth’s natural forces.
