Summer 2012 Financial Aid

Are you thinking about enrolling in summer classes and enjoying beautiful Houghton without snow on the ground? If so, you’ll need to complete a Summer Financial Aid Application to be considered for any aid. Your summer cost of attendance and financial aid package will be awarded based on the information you report on the application.

The minimum number of credits required to retain specific types of aid are as follows:
Scholarships and University Student Awards – 12 credits
Federal Direct Loans – 6 credits

Note: throughout the summer semester, students who change their enrollment status will see an adjustment to their federal grants and possibly to other aid. It is important to speak with a financial aid staff member prior to dropping a summer class to understand the impact it will have on your financial assistance. SMART Scholarship

The Department of Defense offers scholarships and post-graduation career opportunities to our nation’s research leaders of tomorrow. SMART Scholars receive: generous cash award, full tuition and fees, health insurance, book allowance, summer internships (multi-year participants), and career opportunities. Leading Scholar Award Program

Michigan Tech welcomes both Michigan Residents and Non-Residents to apply for our most prestigious scholarship. The Leading Scholar award will pay tuition, room and board, and a $1,000 stipend for residents. The non-resident value will be equal to full time non-resident tuition. ALERT – Don’t pay for Financial Aid

Michigan Tech students have recently been receiving notices in the mail from College Financial Advisory (CFA). CFA is requesting students send in a fee to help them apply for financial aid. Please don’t send any personal information or pay a fee to any companies that want to help you with your financial aid. In addition, please keep in mind that you should not pay a fee to have anyone complete your FAFSA. The FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid and can be accessed through www.fafsa.gov.
