Fellowship opportunities for Michigan Tech Graduate Students

The Graduate School has several fellowship opportunities for new and returning students. A complete listing of all awards and fellowships is online.  Several have deadlines in the next few weeks and are highlighted below.

  1. The DeVlieg Foundation provides funding for two summer fellowships for current PhD students. Applications due February 9, 2016.
  2. Doctoral finishing fellowships are available for up to ten PhD students expecting to complete their degree in summer. Applications due February 16, 2016.
  3. PHF Graduate Fellowships are available to PhD students completing health-related research that is aligned with the PHF’s mission. Applications due February 16, 2016.
  4. KCP Future Faculty Fellowships are available to MS and PhD students (new and continuing) who are underrepresented in their fields and intending on a career in higher education (administration or faculty). Applications due March 1, 2016 for full consideration.
  5. Dean’s Fellowships are available to PhD students entering in the summer or fall. Applications due March 15, 2016.

Nominations open for Dean’s Fellowships

Nominations are now open for the Dean’s Fellowships.  They are due no later than 4pm on March 15, 2013 to Dr. Debra Charlesworth.  Dean’s Fellowships provide partial support for the recipient’s first year in a PhD program.  This primary goal of this program is to support Michigan Tech’s strategic plan goal of being an inclusive and welcoming campus for faculty, students, and staff who bring rich, diverse perspectives to our teaching, learning, and research.

In brief, students are eligible to be nominated for the fellowship if the following conditions have been met at the time of nomination:

  1. Student has applied to and been accepted into a PhD program at Michigan Tech.
  2. Student is a US citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Student has been offered at least three years of support by the accepting department or graduate degree program.
  4. Student has been assigned a faculty mentor who will provide guidance as soon as the student enters Michigan Tech.
  5. The department or program has a formal peer-mentoring program in place.

Nominations open for Dean’s Fellowships

Nominations are now open for the Dean’s Fellowships. The primary goal of the Dean’s Fellowship program is to support Michigan Tech’s strategic plan goal of being an inclusive and welcoming campus for faculty, students, and staff who bring rich, diverse perspectives to our teaching, learning, and research.

Dean’s Fellowships provide partial support for the recipient’s first year in a PhD program. The support includes a stipend of $2,000 per academic-year semester (fall and spring) as well as full summer support (stipend plus minimum full-time tuition and fees).

Nominations are due no later than 4pm, March 15th.  Programs and students will be notified by April 2nd of their status.

Nominations for Dean’s Fellowships Open

Nominations for the Dean’s Fellowship are now open. Nominations are due no later than March 1st by 4pm.

These fellowships are available to assist with the recruitment of highly talented applicants to Michigan Tech’s PhD programs. The Dean’s Fellowship is intended to contribute to the development of a diverse academic community, which includes future faculty and others who will be leaders throughout their professional careers.

Dean’s Fellowships provide partial support for the recipient’s first year in a PhD program. The support includes a stipend of $2,000 per academic-year semester (fall and spring) as well as full summer support (stipend plus minimum full-time tuition and fees).

Dean’s Fellowship Recipients Announced

The Graduate School is pleased to announce it’s inaugural group of Dean’s Fellows.  These students began their doctoral studies in 2009, and have received a supplement to their stipend and summer support.

The following PhD candidates have received a one-time award:

  • Carol A. Engelmann, Geology
  • Weston H. Thomas, Electrical Engineering
  • Michael D. Via, Chemical Engineering

The fellowships are made possible by the Graduate School and the Class of 1950.
