Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Updates

Fair Labor Standards Act Webpage Announced

Human Resources continues to work on analyzing the changes to the overtime rule which increases the salary threshold for a position to be considered exempt from overtime.

 As announced, on May 18, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) released the final rule increasing the salary threshold from $455 per week to $913 per week for a position to be considered exempt from overtime.
Employers will need to be in compliance with the new regulations by December 1, 2016.
Positions with a primary responsibility of teaching (including faculty) are not effected by the DOL change.
Human Resources has created a dedicated webpage with information on the new FLSA standards including a timeline for implementation, updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and other useful resources. The webpage can be found here http://www.mtu.edu/hr/supervisors-admins/flsa/
Updates will be made to the webpage and FAQ’s as additional information is released and/or determined.

Summer Hours End

Summer Hours will end on Sunday, August 14th. Beginning on Monday, August 15th, the University will return to regular office hours.
The regular hours of operation will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All offices must be staffed during these hours.
