Nexus: Dr. Terry Reynolds Talks about Researching Michigan Iron

Dr. Terry S. Reynolds, professor of history in the Department of Social Sciences at Michigan Tech and a dedicated member of the Friends of the Van Pelt Library, will give a presentation at 4:00pm on Thursday, April 21, in the East Reading Room of the Van Pelt and Opie Library.

Reynolds’s presentation, “The Survivor: Cleveland-Cliffs and Michigan’s Iron Ore Industry, 1847-2006,” will look at the history of the only surviving independent iron mining company in the United States.

The event is part of the library’s events series “Nexus: the Scholar and the Library” which illuminate ways scholars and scientists productively use libraries and archives. It is open to the public and is sponsored by Friends of the Van Pelt Library, Michigan Tech Social Sciences Department, and the Van Pelt and Opie Library. Join us for free refreshments. Some photos from the event, which drew a crowd of more than 60 attendees:

Refreshments at the event included a cake with a photo-transfer of the book cover. It was a big hit - so much so that we weren't able to snap a photo before attendees started digging into it. Photo by Allan Johnson.
