Sign up to be a Huskies #MIKidsCan Player of the Game

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech Athletics and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan have teamed up to promote the #MIKidsCan Campaign for the second year in a row. Local Copper Country youth will have an opportunity to be a part of the pregame ceremony for hockey, football, basketball, or volleyball.

Each lucky participant will be announced with the Huskies starting line up and either: lead the Huskies out on the ice and join them for the National Anthem, run the football to the refs for opening kickoff and then stand on the sideline for the kickoff, give the ball to the referee to start the game for basketball or volleyball, and sit at the end of the bench for the first quarter or set.

Please fill out this registration form through the link above to have your chance to become a Huskies #MIKidsCan Player of the Game. You must be in kindergarten through eighth grade. Participants will be randomly selected.

Second Annual Basketball/Hockey Golf Outing Set for Sept. 6

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Athletics Department is pleased to announce the second annual men’s basketball and hockey meet the teams golf outing on Friday, September 6. The outing will be held at Portage Lake Golf Course and feature an 11 a.m. shotgun start.

Participants will sign up in teams of three and a student-athlete from men’s basketball or hockey will be assigned to each team as the fourth player. However, teams can elect to sign up with four players.

The cost per team is $300 which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, pizza on the course, a meal following the outing, and the opportunity to meet both the men’s basketball and hockey teams. There is a limit of 36 teams with prizes for longest drive, closest to pin, and longest putt. Prize money will be awarded to the top and bottom teams in each randomly picked flight.

Sponsorship opportunities include $150 for a hole or a team and hole sponsorship package can be purchased for $400.

Players can sign up for the outing using the registration form at the link above. Teams have three options for payment. Entry fees can be paid online at the link above, by sending a check made out to Michigan Technological University c/o Josh Buettner, 1400 Townsend Drive, Houghton, MI, 49931, or by paying with a check/cash the day of the outing.

A percentage of the proceeds will support the Huskies Lend a Paw initiative to support Big Brothers Big Sisters – UP Kids.

Registration Open for 2019 Fall Clinics & Leagues

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Registration is now open for all Michigan Tech Fall Little Huskies Clinics and Leagues. The Michigan Tech volleyball team will hold their annual Little Huskies Volleyball Club, while the men’s and women’s basketball teams will see the return of the Little Huskies Basketball Leagues.

The Michigan Tech Little Huskies Volleyball Club is a series of 45 minute post-game skill development clinics hosted by the Michigan Tech volleyball team. Open to boys and girls between grades K-6, all participants will learn skills involving attacking, passing, setting, and more. The clinics will be held after every Michigan Tech home volleyball match, beginning on September 5 and concluding on November 9.

The Little Huskies Girls Basketball League is a weekly weekend league for girls in grades 3-8 from September 14-October 12 inside the SDC Multipurpose Gym. Under the coaching of the Michigan Tech women’s basketball coaching staff, all participants will learn fundamental skills such as ball handling, shooting, and team play.

The Little Huskies Boys Basketball League is a one-week introductory basketball clinic with a focus on developing fundamental individual and team skills. Held inside the SDC Multipurpose Gym from 6:00-8:00 p.m. the week of September 30, all participants in grades 3-6 will learn skills such as ball handling, shooting, defensive play, and teamwork from the Michigan Tech men’s basketball coaching staff.
