Student News Briefs: March 4, 2011

PI DAY MOVIE:   As a celebration of Pi Day, the Math Society will be hosting two showings of the movie Pi on Monday, March 14, at 7:00 pm and 9:00pm in Fisher 135.  Admission is FREE and pie will be available for $1.00 at the door.  Come join us as we celebrate this wonderful day of the year, and bring friends.  For questions about this event, contact Jason Hiebel at jshiebel@mtu.edu.

ASME MEETINGS:  The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has their bi-weekly meetings the first and third Wednesday of each month at 5:00 P.M. in MEEM 112.  Pizza and pop is provided and all new members and disciplines are welcome.  For questions, contact Bryan Cook at bdcook@mtu.edu.

FREE SWING CLASS:  The Swing Club is offering a FREE six-week course in beginning swing dance.  Classes will be held on Saturdays at 7:00 pm in Wads G17/G19 beginning March 19.  No experience or partner required.  We will cover basic triple-step east coast swing, swing fundamentals and partner connection, open and closed position swing, variations on the basic step pattern, styling and musicality and lots of other snazzy moves!  Open dance at 8:00 pm.   To guarantee a spot in the class, sign up in advance by emailing swing@mtu.edu, or just show up!

FREE LINDY HOP CLASS:  The Swing Club is offering a FREE class in Lindy Hop and Charleston on Thursdays at 8:00 pm beginning March 17.  The class will run for six weeks and will be in Wads G17/G19.  You MUST have experience in triple-step east coast swing in order to take this class.  Email swing@mtu.edu for more information or to sign up in advance.  Walk-ins welcome, but doesn’t guarantee a spot in the class!
