Nitrate Elimination Company, Inc. receives EPA approval for Enzymatic Nitrate Determination
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) notified Nitrate Elimination COmpany, Inc. (NECi) that their accurate and cost-effective method for nitrate analysis “meets all requirements for measurement of nitrate and combined nitrate-nitrite in wastewater”. Their method is an environmentally friendly replacement for the old cadmium-based method – using nitrate reductase in the place of cadmuim, and the first enzyme-based method for regulatory analysis of water approved in the U.S.

U.P. companies invited to DARPA training workshop to compete & win contracts
In May MTEC SmartZone is hosting a free training workshop for Upper Peninsula companies interested in learning how to compete for and win Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contracts. The purpose of the workshop is to assist early-stage technologies along a path of commercialization while increasing the amount of federally sponsored DARPA research and development funding that comes into Michigan. Event takes place May 28th at the Advanced Technology Development Complex in Houghton.

BridgeGuard President recognized at “Michigan Celebrates Small Businesses”
Dorothy Ruohonen, President and CEO of BridgeGuard Inc. was honored as one of the 2014 Michigan 50 Companies to Watch at the Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards ceremony. Ruohonen’s business provides services through two divisions: BridgeGuard and Hawk Technologies. BridgeGuard is a proprietary infrared software suite, and Hawk Technologies provides computer aided design (CAD) services for multiple engineering fields.

REL recognized for ‘Innovation’ at “Michigan Celebrates Small Businesses”
REL received the Innovation of the Year award this week at the 2014 Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards ceremony. REL’s recently invented ceramic/aluminum composite brake rotors have a 3-4 times greater lifespan, are more cost effective, and are 50-80 percent lighter, won’t warp or fade, and have a customizable appearance.
