Wireless Network Change Coming Thursday, August 23, 2012

Posted by kcsmith under Mobile Communications, Network & Internet

Information Technology has installed a network access control (NAC) system to manage access to the wireless networks on campus. It will be enabled  on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 6:00 am.

Mobile device (iphone, ipad, android, etc) users that are currently connecting to the MichiganTech wireless network should not notice any change.

Computer users connecting to the MichiganTech wireless network will need to open a web browser and follow the instructions to register their computers. A small software agent will download and run during this process.

The MTU wireless network will be disabled. Computers using the MTU network should switch to MichiganTech if at all possible.

Users who are unable to connect to MichiganTech should contact IT Help at 7-1111 or it-help@mtu.edu for assistance with registration.

Connecting to Resnet Gets an Upgrade

Posted by margaret under Network & Internet

Resnet registration has been improved by the installation of a network access control system. Students can now register their computers before arriving on campus which simplifies and speeds up the process of connecting  for the first time.

Television Service Is Going Digital

Posted by sgodmere under Television Services

During May 2012, Telecommunications will be upgrading the campus television system to digital. Most channels will be offered in digital HD with Dolby Digital sound.  There will still be a small selection of analog channels. The channel lineup will also be changing as we group similar programming together. Viewers will need a digital cable tuner in their television to tune the streams offered on the system. Those looking to buy a new set or cable box should look for “digital cable”, or “clear-QAM tuner” in the specifications.

Most analog channels will be removed from the system starting on May 1st. The work to install the new HD channels should be completed by June 1, 2012. Users of the system during this transition may need to scan nightly to pick up any changes made to the system that day.

An updated lineup will be posted to http://www.tc.mtu.edu/tv
