Halloween Events

This weekend is loaded with fun Halloween activities! Here are just some few that I wanted to highlight.

SafeHouse is put on by the Inter-Residence Hall Council and is free of charge. It will be on Saturday October 26th, from 3:30-6:00pm.  All three residence halls participate and the tours will start from the main entrances of each. There are some halls that do scary sections and some halls that do more silly and fun sections. You will be informed which halls do which and can choose which you would like to do. The fun halls usually incorporate games and candy, which is perfect for young children, or adults who like candy and don’t like being scared. Either way, SafeHouse and a fun way to spend your Saturday afternoon and is open to the entire community!

The Quincy Mine up in Hancock is also doing a Haunted Quincy Mine tour. This will be held Friday October 25th and Saturday October 26th. Tour times are 5:15, 6:00, 6:45, 7:30,  8:15, and 9:00. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. You are encouraged to purchase these tickets in advanced due to limited space, however, you can also purchase them at the mine.

Sig Pi is also putting on their yearly Haunted Haus this Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $5 or you can get in by bringing a few canned goods. All donations go to Pigs-n-Heat which is a fire relief fund. Sig Pi advises that if you are bringing children, do so from 7-9pm. Adults are recommended to attend from 9-12pm.

DeRochers Corn Maze is also taking place this year and I hear that it’s pretty scary. This will be Friday October 25th and Saturday October 26th from 7:30-11:00pm. It is also in Baraga, which is about 20-30 minutes south of Hougthon. The address is 13536 State Hwy M-38. The cost is $5 per person.

Film board will be playing The Shining this weekend in recognition of Halloween. It will be playing both Friday October 25th and Saturday October 26th. Showtimes are 5:30, 8:30, and 11:30pm. The cost is $3 per person and you need your Tech ID.

Lastly, Trick-or-Treating will take place in both Houghton and Hancock this year on next Thursday, October 31st. Hancock will be from 5-7pm and Houghton will be from 5-8pm.

So take a break and go carve some pumpkins, visit some haunted houses, or just enjoy a walk in this beautiful fall weather we are having!
