Some Notes for Week 10

Hi all,

Here we are, Week 10…and it’s almost over!  I hope that the last portion of the semester is going well for you all, and that you are enjoying this confusing Michigan weather.  As things warm up, be sure to take some time to explore the Keweenaw.  Even if it’s just a kike on the Tech Trails, or you want to go all-out with a drive to Copper Harbor, it is worth the time and effort to get outside, breathe some fresh air, and experience what the U.P has to offer.  This really is a beautiful place we are living in, and it’s even easier to appreciate it after the long winter!

Some other things to keep in mind as we progress toward the end of the semester:

  • Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day to drop a  course.  You must go to the Registrar’s Office to do this
  • Singer/Songwriter Javier Colon will be at the MUB Ballroom tomorrow (Friday) at 10pm (https://www.involvement.mtu.edu/organization/LateNight/calendar/details/909750)
  • TONIGHT  is the Found Footage Festival in Fisher 135 (https://www.involvement.mtu.edu/organization/memorial-union-board/calendar/details/912961)
  • Next is Biology Week!  Here’s the flyer:

Welcome Back!

Hello, Transfer Students!

I hope you all had a terrific Spring Break, and have come back to campus refreshed and ready to conquer the rest of the semester!  It is hard to believe that the semester is more than halfway over, and summer is just around the corner!

At this point in the semester, it can be easy to hit the proverbial wall, and feel a little burned out, but hang in there; we’re almost done!  I know I use this blog to give you a lot of pep talks, bur I mean every word of them.  You have made it this far, and you are so close to completing another semester, and getting that much closer to your ultimate goals.  That’s something to be proud of!  Just remember, there are a lot of resources on campus if you feel like you need a little help and support: You can visit one of the learning centers around campus if you need help with a specific subject, you can stop by the Wahtera Center in the Administration Building and talk with me or one of my colleagues, or you can visit Counseling Services (also in the Admin Building).  Whatever you need in order to thrive, and whoever you trust to confide in, don’t hesitate to reach out!

I will wrap up my pep talk by reminding you that, as you work hard to complete your assignments, there are fun things happening around campus as well, so take advantage of them!

For example, the Film Board will be showing 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi in Fisher 135 this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. https://www.involvement.mtu.edu/organization/FilmBrd/calendar/details/922329

There will also be a Food and Wine Pairing event this Friday at the MUB.  https://www.involvement.mtu.edu/organization/memorial-union-board/calendar/details/912962

Also, we are due for another Transfer Student Event, so if there is something in particular that you would like to do as a group, please let me know, and I will do my best to make arrangements!
