ACMAL staffing over holiday

Status

The M&M building and ACMAL labs will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday next week, November 28 and 29, 2019. The building and ACMAL labs will be open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for restricted users (with no keys or tap access). If you are a new user please email us to arrange for supervision in case you have a problem. Unrestricted users who have building and lab tap access are free to use the equipment anytime

Aleister and Liz will be working limited hours next week. Pinaki Mukherjee will be here each day, but Ed Laitila and I will be on stay-cation all week. Since we will be in town, if you have an emergency and cannot reach Aleister and Liz, please call Owen at 906-369-1875 and Ed at 906-369-2041.

ESEM Status

1:03 p.m.: There is a problem with the stage. I’ll check it and update you later this afternoon.

4:09 p.m.: Not sure what I did but its working now.

ESEM EDS/EBSD computer

8:47 a.m.: The Oxford PC is down so EDS and EBSD can’t be used. I have a call into IT and I’ll update you as the repair is made.

10:31 a.m.: The Oxford pc is working now. Okay to use the scope.

ESEM is back online

The ESEM is back online. There is a bit of a problem with filament saturation but we are still working on that. The system is usable in the meantime.

I installed the new Pt/Pd sputter target today.

Sputter Coater Target

The PtPd target wore out this morning. I have a new one on order. In the mean time we are using the iridium target. You won’t be able to tell the difference with the Ir coating.

FESEM back online

Status

I do not know what happened this morning. The engineers gave me a suggestion, but it worked before I tried it. I fear that the problem may return. It appears as many diagonal lines at focus. See the attached image.

Let me know if you see anything unusual.

Electropolishing

Status

Please do not electropolish on the weekend alone. Also, if you only occasionally use it please do the work during the week in case there is a problem. We want to avoid equipment breakage.

Also, the LN2 pump gets condensation in it and freezes. If it is working right the hose black hose will freeze and the temp will go down pretty quickly. Turn off the pump and come get me to help if the pump isn’t turning.
