The Arctic Warriors took to the ice once again, this time under the dark skies and the bright lights. They found themselves, in the frigid air, down two points and no goals to call their own. They had little hope of controlling the damage, with wave after wave of offensive onslaughts. However, they did not let these setbacks trouble their spirits.
Up for a challenge, the offense of “The Big Three,” Cadets Bigalke, St. Arnaud, and Van Wert, rallied to even the odds with two goals. Just as the Warriors seemed to be back in the game, another ball found its way past rookie goalie, Cadet Pscheid. Although, that was the last time that ball would ever see the interior of the Warrior’s goal, as Pscheid employed all parts of his body, including his head, to block oncoming shots.
The defense saw a lift, as well, as Captain Jennings made his debut on the ice. He shut down the opponent’s ability to gain control in the Warrior’s zone with aggressive play and soaring leaps. The Big Three stepped up again with a barrage of shots and a surgical placement by Bigalke to tie it up. For several minutes, both teams fought hard, but the Arctic Warriors broke through on the shoulders of Van Wert to take the lead in the final minute. From there it was a matter of the final countdown…a final countdown to victory.
