This year marked the first grdautes for the Civil and Environmental Engineering Accelerated MS program. All five of the grads were very successful with job offers and all are employed.
The accelerated master’s programs in civil engineering and environmental engineering allow students to count up to 6 senior-level credits toward both a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering.

James Rockwell ’79, gave a presentation "Oil and Gas Pipeline Design, Construction and Operation," on Thursday April 16th at Michigan Tech.
The presentation was based on Rockwell’s 33-plus years in the oil and gas industry. It focuses on long-distance pipelines.
An overview of the engineering principles, issues, practical aspects and regulations applicable to the design, construction and operation of oil and gas pipeline systems was presented. The focus was on DOT specifications, standards and procedures for steel pipelines. Hydraulics, diameter and wall thickness sizing construction aspects were discussed.
Tess Ahlborn was presented with an Outstanding Faculty Award on Sunday, about 250 students gathered for the 9th Annual Greek Life Awards Ceremony in the MUB Ballroom. In addition to the many student awards presented, Order of Omega, the Greek Life Honor Society that coordinates the awards, also took the time to recognize some exceptional faculty and staff.
There are more than 500 students in fraternities and sororities at Michigan Tech, and Order of Omega really wanted to emphasize that these awards (Outstanding Faculty Award and Outstanding Staff Award) would be coming directly from the students.

Congratulations to the ASCE Steel Bridge Team and Concrete Canoe teams for their outstanding performance at the regional competition in Toledo this past weekend.
The Steel Bridge Team placed second in the region, securing a spot to attend the National competition this summer.

summer.

Fluorescent bands of color outline the Great Lakes on a new, comprehensive map of the region’s coastal wetlands. This publicly available map is the first of its kind on such a broad scale — and the only one to trump political boundaries. Both Canadian and US wetlands are shown along more than 10,000 miles of shoreline.
The Great Lakes is an important focus of Michigan Technological University research. The coastal wetlands map is an extension of that focus, expanding on previous maps created through the Michigan Tech Research Institute (MTRI).
Richard Anderson, P.E. and Michigan Tech civil engineering alumnus was awarded the 2015 Glen L. Martin Practitioner Service Award. The Glen L. Martin Practitioner Service Award is awarded to an engineering practitioner for distinguished service to or support of civil engineering education. The award will be presented at the the annual conference of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) in Seattle, Washington, June 2015.
Michigan Tech will offer a Transportation and Civil Engineering (TRAC) Educator Workshop as a free program that provides teachers with curriculum-enhancing, hands-on lessons and tools for their math, science, engineering, and social science classes. The presenter will be Julie VanPortfliet, TRAC Program Manager, Michigan Dept. of Transportation (MDOT).
The workshop will feature motion detectors, photo gates, and magnetic levitation tracks as just a few of the fun activities that TRAC will introduce. TRAC includes teacher training, interactive software, replacement supplies, and opportunities for students to interact with engineers, and enter design competitions. Participants will experience seven modules, and choose two for their classroom.
