It’s hard to believe that we’ve already reached week seven of the semester. It seems like just yesterday I was double checking that I was going to the right room for my classes. Now that we’re at the half way point however it’s important to take a look at how you’re doing. Take some time to look at your grades and evaluate how you think the class is going. Are you meeting your own expectations for the class? Do you understand the material that’s been covered so far? How could I improve? If you’ve had a bad first midterm you shouldn’t dwell on it. Now is the time to make the change needed to improve in the class. There is still plenty of time to fix things that maybe didn’t go as well as you had hoped. We’ve all made mistakes, but we have get past them and learn from the experience.
Another thing to consider is how are you doing? When working under the stress that comes with a full college class load we often forget to take the time to think about our own well being. While work is important you should also be taking some time to enjoy yourself every once and awhile. Whether that be going out on a Saturday night or even just taking a break from homework to enjoy a peaceful dinner. Taking a break can not only help alleviate some of the stress you may be feeling, but when you return to the work your mind will be sharper because of it. If you feel that you ever need someone to talk to about how you’re doing remember that Michigan Tech does offer counseling services to all students. There’s no need to be afraid of using counseling services either as they are private sessions and are willing to help any student who feels they need it. During these winter months many people suffer with Seasonal Affective Disorder. If you ever feel that something is wrong don’t be afraid to reach out for help.
That’s all I have for this week, but be sure to come back next week for another issue of…
