Happy Thanksgiving, Huskies!

Hello Commuters and welcome back to another edition of…

The Commute

It’s our final week before Thanksgiving break, so I’d like to say Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and break off from school.

If you’re a STEM major and would like to hear more about  Ford and diversity and inclusion there, make sure to attend their “Career Paths and Pizza with Ford” event on Monday, November 12th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. This event will be held in MEEM 404.

There will be a Blood Drive going on this week in the library. All blood donated will be used to help people throughout the UP. There will be free juice and snacks to all who donate. Walk ins are welcome, but appointments beforehand are preferred. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment please email: almsmith@mtu.edu. The Blood Drive will be going on Tuesday, November 13th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

At Michigan Tech, we always have many successful alumni that go out and do great things in the workplace. On Wednesday, November 14th at 4:30 p.m., there will be an event put on by the Advancement Office celebrating 5 alumni under 35 that have great stories to share with you. The Advancement Office is going to make this into an annual event to celebrate our alumni, and it will be very beneficial because these alumni will talk about their Michigan Tech experience and how it has applied to their current work. There will also be a Q&A session moderated by Dr. Les Cook following their stories. This event will be held in the Rozsa.

On Thursday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m. there will be a KSO Chamber Recital. Here, local musicians join together for a free community chamber recital of folk, theater, and classical music sponsored by the Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra. A $5 donation is accepted at the door. This event will be held at the Portage Lake United Church. Make sure to stop by and support these local musicians.

We’ve also got some more sporting events going on this weekend. Since you are locals, hopefully you are staying in town for break and can come cheer on our Huskies. The Women’s Basketball team has two games this weekend. The first game is on Friday, November 16th at 6:00 p.m. The Huskies will take on MSU-Moorhead. On Sunday, November 18th at 1:00 p.m., they will play Minnesota State. Our Hockey team is out of town this weekend, but they will be in town on November 23rd and 24th where they will play Alaska. Both of these games will start at 7:07 p.m.

I hope you all have a good Thanksgiving break and have a well deserved break from homework.

Stay tuned after Thanksgiving break for another edition of….
