Last Blog for Fall 2018

Hello Commuters and welcome back to another edition of…

The Commute

This is my final blog for the semester since final exams will be starting next week! Make sure to study hard, but also set aside some time for relaxing.

As I said in the last blog, I will be holding a Commuter event this Saturday (the 15th) from 12:30-2:00 p.m. This event will be in the Library in study room 112. Feel free to stop by the Library and pet some of the therapy dogs while enjoying some snacks provided for the commuters in the study room.

There are some events coming up this week that you can check out if you need a break from studying. The Association of Psychology Students is having a free showing of the movie Room on Monday, December 10th from 8:30-10:00 p.m. This will be held in Fisher 135.

There will be a Shake and Bake Study Break on Tuesday, December 11th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in MUB Ballroom B. Make sure to go and de-stress from classes by playing games and having some free milkshakes and baked goods.

The Michigan Tech Trombone Choir will be holding a performance in the Rozsa library on Thursday, December 13th at 7:30 p.m. This event is free. Stop by and take a break from studying while enjoying the music of the trombones.

Michigan Tech Hockey is back again this weekend with games on Friday and Saturday night at 7:07 p.m. They will take on Alabama-Huntsville. Make sure to join and cheer for our Huskies!

The Men and Women’s Basketball teams will also be in town again this weekend and will be playing on Saturday. The Women’s game will tip off at 4:00 p.m. against Lewis, and the Men’s game will tip off at 6:00 p.m. against UW-Stout.

Finally, Michigan Tech has HuskyFit programs all throughout the year, but there will be a special Festive Fusion Holiday party this Saturday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The cost is $15/person at the SDC Ticket Office. Join Allison and Rochelle for a fun night of Zumba and POUND, holiday music, and giveaways.

I hope you all have had a great semester and do a great job on all of your finals!

Stay tuned next semester for another edition of…

Hello Commuters and welcome back to another edition of…

The Commute

I hope you’re have a great week and are making it through these last few weeks of classes. I will be holding a Commuter event before finals week to help you destress, but more details on this event will be in next week’s blog.

This week, on Wednesday, December 5th from 12:15-1:00 p.m. there will be a “Take your Job Search Home for Break” presentation in Admin 220. If you are looking for a job, or even for an internship this summer, make sure to attend this event and see how you can efficiently use your break to search for jobs.

If you are a business major, make sure to attend the “Bob Mark Business Model Competition” on Wednesday, December 5th from 7:00-9:00 p.m in the Library. This is a competition that assesses the quality of the pitch as well as the product market fit. This event will even be judged by President Koubek. If you are interested in registering for this event, please go to:

Also on Wednesday and Thursday night, the Tech Theatre Company is presenting “On the Verge”, a story about three victorian ladies exploring through the wilderness. This event is free for Tech students through the Experience Tech fee, just make sure you bring your Tech ID! This event is being held in the McArdle Theatre (Walker 207) at 7:30 p.m.

The Michigan Tech Basketball teams will both be in town on Thursday night to play against Parkside at the SDC. The Women’s game will tip-off at 5:30, with the Men’s game following at 7:30. Both teams will also be in action on Saturday against Purdue Northwest. The Women’s game will start at 1:00 p.m. with the Men following at 3:00. Basketball games are free to Michigan Tech students, all you have to do is show your ID at the entrance. Make sure to stop by and cheer on our Huskies!

The Memorial Union Board will be hosting a game night (Chess and Euchre) on Thursday in the MUB Commons from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Snacks will also be provided!

Finally, as you all probably know by now, Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan are rivals and the games normally get pretty intense. On Saturday, the Michigan Tech Hockey team will be playing against Northern Michigan. The puck is set to drop at 7:07 p.m. I highly recommend going to this game because the Michigan Tech and Northern rival games are always fun. The Hockey team is still ranked #1 in the WCHA, with Northern Michigan following close behind at #4, so it should be a good game!
