If you attended Career Fair last week, you may have gotten an interview with a company for a job or an internship. Well, Career Services has an event this week that is perfect for you. On Thursday, February 28th from 12:15-1:00 p.m. in Career Services there will be an “Interview Strategies” session. He is a favorite among audiences at top clubs, corporates, and colleges around the nation. Make sure to stop by and support Tommy and get a good laugh.

Finally, we have some athletic games this week against our rival, Northern Michigan University. The basketball teams play Northern on Thursday. The women’s game tips off at 5:30, and men’s following at 7:30. Also, our hockey team will be playing Northern on Friday. The puck will drop at 7:07 p.m. I highly encourage you to take a study break and go to these games because the MTU vs. NMU rivalry games are always a lot of fun.

That is all this week for the blog. I hope you all have a great week. Spring Break is coming up soon!

You may have seen advertisements on campus about movies airing in Fisher 135 over the weekends. The featured group of the week is the organization that shows all of those movies… The Film Board! Film Board is one of the oldest clubs on Michigan Tech’s campus and they are completely run by students. They show new movies that have been out in theaters, but are not on discs yet. They are offer a great variety of different movies for students. Their movie tickets are only $3, with concessions being an extra $1 per item. The Film Board doesn’t just run movies, they also help get involved with other groups on campus such as the CDI, ROTC, and Public Safety. They have meetings every Tuesday from in Fisher 129 at 6:00 p.m. They are always welcoming new members. Members of the Film Board also receive free popcorn each weekend, they get to help pick the movie line up for the semester, and they can also get some friends into the shows. If watching the newest releases sounds like a lot of fun to you, I would highly recommend joining Film Board.

That is all this week for the blog.

Stuff-A-Husky!

Hello Commuters and welcome back to another edition of…

The Commute

I hope you all had a great Winter Carnival and got a chance to enjoy the days off from school and have some fun.

There will be a Spring Career Fair going on later in the semester, so there will be some events coming up in the next few weeks to help you prepare for that.

If you’re interested in working or interning for Kimberly-Clark, or even just need some helpful hints at what employers are looking for in applicants, make sure to attend Resume Reviews with Kimberly-Clark on Monday, February 11th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in Admin 220 (Career Services). They will also have another session on Tuesday, February 12th from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Another helpful event going on this week to help prep for Career Fair is Google’s February YouTube Live Event Opportunities. Here, you can learn how to prepare for and have a successful interview. They will review common interview questions, how to answer them, and introduce you to a new platform Interview Stream. This event will be taking place on Tuesday, February 12th from 12:15-1:00 p.m. in Career Services.

There are so many events that I have enjoyed during my time at Michigan Tech, but one of my favorites has always been Stuff-A-Husky! During Stuff-A-Husky, you can pick which animal you want, and you are given a bag of stuffing that you can put inside of it. Whether you want to make one for yourself, or for someone for Valentine’s Day, I highly recommend going! This event is on Tuesday, February 12th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the MUB Commons. I would recommend going early because this is a very popular event and the animals are only first come first serve!

Finally, on Friday, February 15th from 6:00-10:00 p.m. in Fisher 125-127 there will be a Video Game Night sponsored by the Memorial Union Board. There will be video games and food provided, but feel free to bring your own as well!

Coming off of that event, the organization being highlighted in this blog is, in fact, the Memorial Union Board! If you attended Karaoke over Winter Carnival all-nighter, that was put on by the Memorial Union Board, also. They do many fun student events throughout the semester, some of them including bringing comedians onto campus, casino nights, and they also host Stuff-A-Husky! Meetings for Memorial Union Board are on Wednesdays from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in MUB Ballroom A. If hosting these events and joining this organization sounds interesting to you, do not hesitate to attend one of their meetings. They are always looking for new members that would love to bring fun to Michigan Tech’s students!

That is all this week for the blog. Have a great week, and start studying for your midterm exams.
