10th Annual ACS Student Research Symposium

All high school, undergraduate, and graduate students pursuing research and guided independent study are invited to participate and present their research work at the 10th Annual Student Research Symposium sponsored by the American Chemical Society Upper Peninsula Local Section.

The symposium takes place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9 am-3 pm in Weston Hall at Northern Michigan University, Marquette, Michigan.
9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Registration and abstract are due by Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

DoD SMART Scholarship Application Writing Support

The Graduate School is providing writing support to students who are interested in applying for the U.S. Department of Defense Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (DoD SMART) Scholarship for Service.

About the DoD SMART Scholarship

The program offers scholarships for bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. students pursuing STEM. While in school, students will receive full tuition and educational expenses reimbursement, monthly stipends ($30,000-$46,000 per year), health insurance, book allowances, mentorship, and summer internships that range from 8-12 weeks. Upon degree completion, scholars begin working in a civilian position with their sponsoring facility. For complete details, visit the DoD SMART Scholarship for Service website.

Undergraduate Researcher for AR Project


Dave House Associate Professor Keith Vertanen, Computer Science, is looking to hire an undergraduate research assistant to work on a project involving text input on a Microsoft HoloLens v2 augmented reality (AR) headset. The research assistant will assist in developing and extending an existing AR application written in Unity. The RA may also be asked to help conduct a user study. The position starts immediately with the possibility of continued work in Spring 2025. Apply here.

  • Must be a current Michigan Tech undergraduate
  • Experience with Unity development platform
  • Programming experience outside of your classes
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new tools and technologies
  • Able to work at least 8 hours per week during term

Fully Funded PhD Opportunity in Mechatronics

Assistant Professor Amna Mazen, Departments of Applied Computing and Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology, is seeking applications for a Ph.D. position in mechatronics starting in spring 2025.
