Travel Restriction

By President’s Office

A newly identified coronavirus recently caused an outbreak of respiratory illness in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, and has since spread to multiple countries, including the United States. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring developments and, as mentioned in an article in yesterday’s Tech Today, issued a Level 3 travel warning, urging travelers to avoid all nonessential travel to China.

Consistent with the CDC recommendation, Michigan Tech is issuing a University-wide travel restriction for the entire country of China. The restriction applies to faculty, staff, and students. If you have essential travel to China scheduled, please contact the Office of General Counsel at 906-487-2318.

The University administration will continue to monitor the situation for developments and will update the campus community as necessary. For Michigan-specific information on the coronavirus, please visit the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services webpage.
