Do you care about K-12 education and science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)? Want to make a difference in Worcester? WPI is hosting two AmeriCorps VISTA positions who will work with the STEM Education Center (WPI’s PreK-12 STEM educator hub) and Pre-Collegiate Outreach Programs (WPI’s K-12 student programs). The STEM Education Center VISTA will work in collaboration with WPI and Worcester Public Schools to help review and research technology usage in classrooms and propose how to grow technology usage in a meaningful way. Additionally, the VISTA will create trainings for WPI students and faculty going into low-income school settings about breaking stereotypes around low-income, first-generation students and families. The Pre-Collegiate Outreach Programs VISTA will conduct a landscape analysis of the PreK-12 STEM activities at WPI and the ways the WPI community can be involved in STEM outreach. They will also develop a framework model for the current state of partnerships/collaborations between WPI and the Worcester Public Schools (WPS).
This position requires a commitment to serve full-time for a one-year period beginning August 21. Compensation for this year of service is paid directly to VISTA Members in the form of a modest biweekly living allowance from AmeriCorps VISTA. In addition, VISTAs are eligible to receive benefits, including a health care benefit, a relocation allowance, the option of choosing an end of service stipend in the form of an education award of $5,800 (which can be used to pay student loans) or cash stipend, and more.
