Innovation and Entrepreneurship Michigan Tech GSG Academic Seminar

Come learn more about the resources provided by Tech’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in a café-style information session from 3 – 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in Admin 404.

DTX Launch Detroit Deadline is April 4

Michigan Tech students from Detroit and the surrounding area have a  unique summertime opportunity through incubator and accelerator, TechTown Detroit. TechTown, a partner of the Detroit Technology Exchange (DTX), connects entrepreneurs to resources, as well as learning and networking events in Detroit.

DTX Launch Detroit is a ten-week paid entrepreneurship program for college students and recent graduates who want to start their own business with an innovative idea. The program runs from May 21 to August 8. Students can expand their entrepreneurship tool box, develop their resume, complete the groundwork for launching their own innovative idea and receive a stipend in the process.

Participants will receive $2,500 upon completing the program (up to $7,500 per team). The deadline to apply is Thursday, April 4. More information about DTX Launch Detroit and how to apply can be found here.

Superior Health Foundation Community Ambassadors in Health Scholarship

Do you know of students who are looking to:

  • Engage in community service locally
  • Build hands-on skills and knowledge in community health and wellness
  • Join a learning community that reflects on community service, health and wellness

Students interested in contributing to the health and wellness of the local community should consider applying for the Superior Health Foundation Community Ambassadors in Health Scholarship.

Undergraduate scholarship recipients will receive $500 for the semester they participate in the program. Graduate scholarship recipients will receive $1,000.

Students will partner with a service-oriented organization, such as those that address health care, food security, mental health, obesity, health education or environmental health.

Residents of the Upper Peninsula are especially encouraged to apply and will be given priority consideration. Check out our site for more detailed information on eligibility and how to apply.

This scholarship opportunity is made possible through the generosity of the Superior Health Foundation, and all enrolled Michigan Tech students may apply.

The application deadline is Monday, April 15.

Volunteers Needed for Day of STEM

Volunteers are needed for A Day of STEM in the Copper Country, a brand new event for local ninth-grade students to experience the excitement of STEM. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in the Student Development Complex Wood Gym. We will need some help setting up before and cleaning up after the event.

We are looking for volunteers to help explain the activities and scorekeep for the students. This event is for 200 students from about seven different schools in the area so any help is appreciated. Lunch will be provided to volunteers as well.

Michigan Tech College of Engineering Study Abroad Scholarship

The Michigan Tech College of Engineering is offering study abroad scholarships in the amount of $2,000 to students who are from the College of Engineering. To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be participating in a Michigan Tech approved study abroad program, a student from College of Engineering, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

There will be expectation that scholarship recipients will help promote Michigan Tech study abroad programs after completion of their study abroad program.

Deadlines for scholarship application:

Spring 2019: November 15th
Summer 2019: March 1st
Fall 2019: April 1st

Michigan Tech Communicating Course for Graduate Engineering Students

“MEEM 5010 Professional Engineering Communication” will be offered online this summer in Tracks A and B, meaning the course spans 14 weeks. This three-credit course meets the Advanced Responsible Conduct of Research requirement and helps graduate students prepare for a career in industry by teaching how to develop persuasive reports and presentations and how to communicate and collaborate effectively with other professionals.

The course is also a good precursor to the MEEM 6010 Engineering Research Communication course, which focuses on preparing journal papers, conference presentations, and proposals and is offered in the spring semester.

Poster Design Workshop at Michigan Tech

Making a poster for a conference or other event? Join the Library from 4-5 p.m. Thursday (March 7) in Library 244 for a poster design workshop. This workshop covers basic tips and tricks for presenting your research and information in a visual format.
