As part of the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program, the NC State Carbon Electronics
Cluster seeks nominations for tenured/tenure-track Professors in all areas of Carbon-Based
Electronic materials and devices including Electronics, Photonics and Sensing Materials
and Devices. We seek an innovative and transformative academic leader whose scholarship will
advance NC State’s position as one of the premier universities of its kind. Exceptional candidates
of all ranks will be considered.
The Carbon Electronics Cluster is a part of the NC State University Chancellor’s Faculty
Excellence Program. Carbon and carbon hybrid electronics offer new avenues to solve some of
the most important grand challenges of the 21st century. The Cluster core faculty consists of
faculty members from Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical and
Biological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The research within
the cluster is highly collaborative.
Our vision is to expand our leadership in Carbon Electronics for the next 10 years and beyond, and we
are looking for new faculty in synergy with the existing NC State faculty. We envision interrelated
fundamental and applied research that provide revolutionary computing approaches, renewable power
sources, advanced energy storage, and novel device capabilities in areas of photonics, bioelectronics,
computing, and sensing. Many of these can be integrated into truly self-sustaining systems such as
self-powered autonomous greenhouses, next generation integrated photonics, and self-powered
intelligent health monitors.
