Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to participate in the second virtual Husky Innovate Bridge workshop facilitated by Michigan Tech alum, Hajj Flemings, CEO and Co-Founder of Rebrand/Cities.

Join us for How to Build a personal brand that matters February from 5 to 6:30 p.m. tomorrow (Feb. 23). Register for the Zoom session.

Flemmings will cover how to explore your personal brand, including:

  • How to tell your story
  • Content strategy
  • Visual messaging

Flemmings has worked with clients including Cadillac, Walt Disney, Pitney Bowes, Pfizer, the Detroit Lions, and the U.S. Department of Defense and has been an invited speaker at Iowa State University, University of Michigan—Ross School of Business, Davidson College, Fiat Chrysler and others.

He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, Mashable and CNN Tech Money on the subjects of startups, digital technology and branding.

Those who attend the workshop will be given the opportunity to meet with Flemmings one-on-one on either Wednesday or Friday (Feb. 24/26) for a consultation to discuss their personal brand and to answer questions about their own personal brand.

Michigan Tech Rail Transportation Program Offers First-year Scholarships

The Michigan Tech Rail Transportation Program announces it will offer four scholarships to first-year students interested in learning more about the rail transportation industry.

The scholarships are open to all disciplines. The application process is simple. Complete the application form you can find on our web page and submit it to David Nelson by March 5.

The application includes a short essay where you can tell our judges how you think you might fit into the industry.

The rail industry has cutting-edge jobs in all areas, from communications and controls to power systems, to business applications and construction.

Michigan Tech Students Asked to Participate in World Water Day Research Presentation Competition

As part of the 2021 Michigan Tech World Water Day celebration, a virtual Three Minute Thesis-style competition replaces the student poster presentation this year. Students must register by Friday (Feb. 12).

The student 3MT competition has three categories:

  1. Original student research
  2. Course-based research
  3. People’s Choice

There will be cash prizes for first, second, and third place for categories #1 & #2, plus a single cash prize for category #3.

Students should fill out the google form to register for the competition. Once registered, the WWD committee will send a second form to which registered students can submit their video and supporting materials.

Registration Open for the Michigan Tech Graduate Research Colloquium

Registration for this year’s virtual Graduate Research Colloquium (GRC) is open. Due to the continuation of the SARS-CoV-19 pandemic, the GRC will be held virtually on Thursday and Friday, April 1and 2.

The GRC is a great opportunity to work on your presentation skills and prepare for upcoming conferences. Students are free to give an oral presentation, a poster talk, or both. All talks will be scored by judges from the same field as the presenter.

Cash prizes are available for the top three places in both oral and poster presentations (1st – $300, 2nd – $200, and 3rd – $100). Registration closes Tuesday March 2, at 11:59 PM. Register today.

Poster presentations will take place in a pre-recorded video style. The deadline for video submission is Monday, March 22. A short Q&A session will take place with judges between 4-6 p.m. on April 1. Oral presentations are limited to 12 minutes plus a Q&A session.

The GRC will be capped off with a virtual awards ceremony. All participants and judges are invited to attend. The ceremony will be held on April 2, from 5-7 pm. Full information can be found on our website.
