Two open faculty positions at Oklahoma

The University of Oklahoma (OU) School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science
(CEES) and School of Chemical, Biological and Materials Engineering (CBME) in the Gallogly
College of Engineering (GCoE) are looking to fill a joint faculty position in the area of produced
waters/water resources. The position aligns with the GCoE’s strategic priorities of doubling
research productivity in the strategic growth areas of energy (including management of produced
waters from petroleum production) and water (including treatment and reclamation of produced
waters). This new specialty area will strengthen OU’s water portfolio in an area of critical need
and local and national significance at the energy-water nexus. Specifically, produced waters from
the oil extraction industry pose a problem that is disrupting production, given that the traditional
method of disposal via deep well injection is inducing earthquakes. The large amount of
freshwater currently required for oil production also greatly taxes limited water resources.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain a sponsored research program related
to produced waters. Potential research areas include:
• Development of cost-effective water treatment and desalination technologies
• Risk assessment and water quality targets to protect environmental and public health
• Novel uses of treated waters
Highly qualified individuals with demonstrated expertise in other innovative areas related to
produced waters/water resources, and/or other research challenges at the energy-water nexus, will
receive full consideration. Applicants at all levels will be considered.
Since this position is being advertised jointly by CEES and CBME, it is anticipated that the
successful candidate will teach one senior/graduate water quality course for CEES and one
graduate course in his/her specialty area that would serve as an elective in both departments. The
CEES course could be taught online as part of the MS program in Hydrology and Water Security.
The subject matter for the on-campus graduate specialty course in CEES or CBME will depend on
the candidate’s area of expertise, but it is expected that it will cover one or more topics related to

Assistant or Associate Professor

The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University invites
applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor depending upon

systems engineering, including artificial intelligence techniques, and/or computations with an emphasis in
