Board of Trustees Note to the Campus Community

by Michigan Tech Board of Trustees

The Michigan Tech Board of Trustees would like to formally thank the University’s leadership, faculty, and staff for their efforts in these unprecedented and difficult times.

Collectively, the Michigan Tech community has embraced the concept of shared sacrifice as the University navigates through financial and operational challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

We would like to note the Board’s sincere appreciation to the faculty, who worked diligently to quickly move coursework online over spring break and deliver a quality remote instruction experience for students. To those workers who have been on campus at Tech, keeping things operational during the stay-home order, we thank you. To those employees who have been working remotely, we understand firsthand that challenge and appreciate your efforts under less than ideal conditions. To University leadership and the President’s Budget Advisory Committee, whose recommendations were utilized in developing a balanced budget for fiscal year 2021, we applaud your collaboration in making these incredibly tough choices.

We are mindful that some of these changes will have long-term implications for some of our colleagues, and regret very much the conditions that precipitated them.

It is the nature of leadership in uncertain times that difficult decisions have to be made, circumstances will change, and organizations need to be agile and transparent. President Koubek and his team have demonstrated those qualities thus far, and we charge them with continuing to do so.
