What You Need to Know About the Families First Coronavirus Response Act

Human Resources is working diligently to bring our campus community accurate information about the recently enacted Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) that went into effect April 1, 2020. The Act provides paid leave to employees who meet specific criteria in relation to how they have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stepping Up Virtually to Meet the Needs of Students

The campus-wide efforts to support our students in this new remote learning environment have been extraordinary. While it might have been a bumpy start, it seems like a rhythm has taken hold and people are adapting to our new reality. Evidence of this came from a student who wrote to me recently and said, “All of my professors have been tremendous and willing to make adjustments in the interest of alleviating any burdens, too; this is another testament to our incredible Husky culture! (#tenacity).” Indeed, support is being offered across campus in a variety of ways to meet the needs of students.

When Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order was first announced, many of us began to think the fall 2020 semester might be affected. It’s now safe to assume that it will be different from other fall semesters—but we are already moving down a path that will make things feel much the same for students, faculty, and staff.
