Covid-19 Health Informed Policies for the Residence Halls

We hope you are enjoying the last days of summer and getting excited for arriving on our campus in the Fall! I am writing to you quickly today to touch base about an Executive Order recently signed by the Michigan governor and its impact on our campus. I would also like to share with you some pertinent information about our COVID-19 and health-informed policies.

On July 29th, Governor Whitmer released an Executive Order impacting the Upper Peninsula region, stating that indoor social gatherings need to be limited to no more than 10 people (previously it was 50). In reviewing the move-in model we have shared with you, we can continue with our plan as announced if everyone does their part, but need to reinforce the following:

  • You can only bring two guests total to campus during your move-in. We cannot provide any additional flexibility on this, especially with the new guidance given.  Upon completion of move in, students will be subject to the visitation policies listed in Husky Alert Level Three in the COVID-19 Health-Informed Policies document below.
  • You and your guests are encouraged to monitor your symptoms for 14 days before coming to campus. Students are encouraged to submit the Daily Symptom Tracking Form during those 14 days and are required to submit it daily once you arrive on campus, including the day you move in. The symptom tracker will be verified as part of the check-in process. Guests should submit the Visitor Symptom Tracking Form the day they plan to be on campus, prior to arrival. Free COVID-19 testing will be part of the move-in process and we encourage you to participate. Please keep an eye out for an email from Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center with information on how to complete your registration, and please complete your registration before Move-In Weekend.
  • If you or your guests experience symptoms related to COVID-19, please don’t come to campus. Contact us so we can assist you and find you another move-in date.
  • You and your guests must wear face coverings at all times while in the residence halls. Once you have moved in, face coverings are not required in your room.
  • You and your guests must make every effort to practice six feet of physical distancing and avoid congregating in groups of 10 or more to uphold the Executive Order.

For your convenience, I have also attached our COVID-19 Health-Informed Policies. You can review these policies and make any preparations necessary. New students will receive a detailed email outlining the check-in process the week of August 16. Early next week, I will write again with additional information on what to expect in the residence halls. We are looking forward to ensuring you have a great experience in your Husky home when you return in the Fall.
