Revised NSF and NIH Proposal Deadlines

Due to the government shutdown, NSF and NIH have revised proposal deadlines.

Revised due dates for NSF funding opportunities that fall between October 1 and 25 have been posted on the Resumption of Operations webpage on the NSF website. These revised dates apply whether the proposal is being submitted via the NSF FastLane System or Due to compressed proposal deadlines resulting from the shutdown, proposers are advised that they may experience a delay when contacting IT Help Central with technical support questions. Frequently asked questions regarding these date changes also are available on the Resumption of Operations page.

All October grant application submission deadlines have been rescheduled and can be found on the NIH grants website. NIH has issued guidance on resumption of activities following the government shutdown, which is available on-line at NOT-OD-14-007 as well as

Government Shutdown: Impact on Proposal Submissions and Award Expenditures

The federal government’s fiscal year ended on Sept. 30, 2013, at 11:59 p.m. A new FY14 Appropriations Act was not signed into law; therefore, the federal government is now under a partial shutdown. The best course of action is for our research community to proceed with ongoing research unless notified otherwise.

For all upcoming proposals, please continue to submit proposals and internal paperwork to SPO/IIE following the deadlines currently published by the sponsor and by the appropriate internal deadline. Sponsored Programs staff will process your proposal according to the best and most recent directions provided to us by each agency. In many cases, applications are not currently being accepted; however, it is important to proceed as if they are because we cannot predict when submission systems will begin accepting proposals again.

The federal shutdown also means the University is now spending our own cash reserves to cover current sponsored programs expenditures until federal reimbursement occurs. Therefore, to the extent possible, please be prudent when incurring expenditures on federal and federal pass through grants and contracts until the shutdown ends and reimbursement can continue.

Feel free to contact Sponsored Programs at 7-2226 if you have any questions.
