Homecoming Week

Happy Homecoming Week! Homecoming here at Michigan Tech is one of a kind, much like all of our other traditions here.

This Friday make sure to check out the cardboard boat races. Different organizations have been making cardboard boats all week and will be venturing out into the cold portage waters hoping theirs doesn’t sink! The races will be at Houghton Waterfront Park at 4:00 PM. There will be a shuttle running to the races for those who need a ride. The shuttle will continuously loop from the SDC, to the MUB and then to the Houghton Waterfront Park from 2:00-6:00 PM.

To keep the homecoming weekend going, there will be a homecoming tailgate before the football game on Saturday! The tailgate will be in Lot 24 by the football field and have free food for students with their Tech ID. The tailgate will be from 11:00-1:00 with the game starting at 1:00.

This weekend is also family weekend! If your families are taking a trip up to see you, check out all the awesome events taking place. Some of the events include chair lift color tours, a golf scramble, mine tours and Sunday brunch.

With so much going on this weekend, there is something for everyone to go out and have a great time!

Best of luck this week!

Hello Transfer Students!

I can’t believe it’s already week three here at Tech! I hope your first couple weeks have gone well and that you are starting to feel adjusted to our beautiful campus.

Now that the excitement from the semester starting has begun to wind down, you can feel everyone starting to relax and getting into routines. However, there are still plenty of exciting opportunities happening around campus.  Hopefully you got a chance to go to K-Day and find a few organizations that interested you. For myself, joining clubs and organizations helped me adapt to being in a new place more than anything.

I also hope you have taken time to enjoy the beautiful weather we have been having. It won’t be long until the ground is covered in snow and everyone will be bundled up. One great way to enjoy the outdoors here is by playing Intramural Sports! I have played in a few and it’s a great way to have fun with friends. There are a few register deadlines coming up, so be sure to sign up soon if you are interested! If you don’t want to show off your sports skills, you can still enjoy the outdoors this weekend with a free concert. The Rozsa Center is putting on “An Old Fashioned Twilight Concert” on Walker Lawn this Sunday the 18th at 7:30pm.

Best of luck this week, study hard and have some fun!
