Chemical Engineering Student Named Summer 2025 Finishing Fellowship Winner

The Graduate School announced Michigan Tech’s Summer 2025 Finishing Fellows. Please congratulate Chemical Engineering student Palas Kamlakar Borkar on this accomplishment.

Palas Kamlakar Borkar began his journey at Michigan Tech in 2016 by enrolling in the master’s program in chemical engineering, which he completed in 2018. After gaining valuable experience outside academia, he returned in 2021 to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. His Ph.D. research focuses on developing cost-effective bioleaching methods for manganese recovery from low-grade ores. He has also worked on extracting iron from iron ore tailings using bioleaching and has contributed to battery recycling projects aimed at recovering critical metals such as manganese, nickel and cobalt.
