Keith Vertanen (CS/ICCHCC) was mentioned in an MIT News story about a flexible computer-based dictation system called Nomon developed to assist severely motor-impaired individuals type more quickly and accurately. Vertanen is a member of the MIT-led research team behind Nomon. The story was also published in Tech Xplore and Science Blog.

The Noman system enables severely motor-impaired individuals who communicate using a single switch to do so faster and with more accuracy. Their system is more flexible than many common interfaces, enabling it to be used for tasks like drawing, gaming, or surfing the web.

Vertanen is a co-author of a related paper by lead author Nicholas Bonaker of MIT and others. The research is being presented at the ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems.
