POW-MIA REMEMBRANCE WEEKEND:  Michigan Tech’s Arnold Air Society will be hosting their first POW-MIA Remembrance Weekend September 23-25.  The goal of this event is to spread awareness about local and national POWs and MIAs. We want to assure the families and friends of those service men and women that although their loved ones may still be lost, they certainly are not forgotten.

Friday, September 23 will be “Red Friday.” All individuals are encouraged to wear a red t-shirt in honor of our service men and women.

Saturday, September 24 we will be holding a public POW-MIA 5k Bridge Run and Walk. This will be taking place at Porvoo Park in Hancock at 10:00am. Local military organizations, students, faculty, and people of all ages are invited to participate in this run/walk. Prizes will be given to the top 3 men and women participants. An awards ceremony will take place at 11:30am in the Rosza Parking lot after the walkers have completed their course.

Sunday, September 25 our Air Force ROTC Color Guard will partake in raising the flag that morning at 8:00am. We are inviting the public the come out and observe such a ceremony. It would be an honor to not only show our support for those who have fought for their country but also to show our support towards the efforts being made to make sure these individuals are not forgotten.

Registration is $10 and sign-up is available online at active.com found under Hancock POWMIA Bridge Run. There will also be registration booths present at Red Friday at Mich Tech’s ROTC building, 12-3pm Sept. 23; and at Porvoo Park on race day from 8:30-9:30am Sept. 24.  Only paper forms will be available at these locations.  If you have any questions, please contact Brittney Szabo at blszabo@mtu.edu.
