An Afternoon on the Town is a Michigan Tech event that invites local businesses/services to welcome our students and show them what they have to offer. Starting on campus, down College Avenue, and throughout the downtown Houghton area there will be live music, refreshments, giveaways, and prizes for student participants.

Come down to the Great Lakes Research Center to relax before classes start.  Music by Goodnight Argent, as well as frozen treats.

Goodnight Argent will be covering popular songs such as Stereo Hearts and Moves Like Jagger in addition to playing some of their original music.

Self Defense Class

The next R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) class is September 18-October 11 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Wadsworth Hall Room G41.  Registration can be completed through Community Programs at https://www.tickets.mtu.edu/Online/default.asp. The Michigan Tech Competitive Cheer Team and The Michigan Tech Dance Team are happy to announce that their 2012 FALL TRYOUT SCHEDULES have been posted!

The Cheer Team will be holding tryouts in the SDC Wood Gym on September 5, 6 and 9.

The Dance Team will be holding tryouts in the SDC Wood Gym on September 13 and 14, and in the SDC Dance room on September 15.

Late Night Entertainment

Lindsay Benner – Saturday, August 25 at 8:00 PM, Memorial Union Building (MUB) Ballroom.
Lindsay is a virtuoso entertainer with a twinkle in her eye and a heart of gold. She has toured her solo show across the globe from New Zealand to Norway, and charmed the world’s magic elite at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. Lindsay got her start performing her act on the streets of San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. Inspired by classic vaudeville and golden-era comedy, she has spent her life working tirelessly to perfect the art of making people happy. Also an accomplished actress, Lindsay has appeared in films such as The Darwin Awards and The Lost Coast, both of which were featured at major film festivals.

Mind Trekkers needs volunteers

There is an exciting event coming up in the end of August. Mind Trekkers will be attending the Houghton County Fair at the fair grounds in Hancock. They are looking for 100 volunteers for this trip. This will be a great kick start to the school year and a chance for everyone to make some new friends! They will be meeting at the Administration Building at 8:00am on Saturday, August 25. From there they will travel to the fair grounds, set up, and enjoy a day full of mind trekking and science! The event will run from 10 AM to 5:00 PM. Lunch will be provided.
Schedule:
8:00 AM – Meet at Admin, drive to fair grounds
8:30 AM – Set up for event
10:00 AM – Event starts
5:00 PM – Event Ends, clean up immediately
5:30 PM – Drive back to Admin Building
