GNAR Race – Sign Up Today!

This is the third running of the Great Northern Adventure Race, The GNAR, and we want you to be a part of it.  This introductory 3-5 hour race will consist of orienteering, Mt Biking, Running/Walking, and other challenge events working either 2 or 4 person teams.  This is a great race for first time adventure racer as well as a good warm up for the seasoned veterans.  The race will take place near the rugged and picturesque area around the Upper Peninsula city of Houghton, MI on Saturday, September 29, 2012.

LOST and FOUND items from K-Day

There were 2 keys found at the K-Day event.  If you lost a key, please come to Student Activities, MUB 112, to claim your item.

Additional items include, a towel, hoodie, lightweight jacket, baseball cap, and few water bottles.  To claim these items, see Maryann in MUB 106.  Any item that is not claimed by next Friday will be donated to Goodwill.

5k run/walk to honor POW/MIA’s

Join Arnold Air Society in the annual POWMIA Bridge Run/Walk on September 22 at 10:00 AM.  The run honors POW/MIA’s and raises money for the local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) in Houghton.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners as well as the most photogenic runner! Registration is available online ($12) at http://www.active.com/running/houghton-mi/powmia-bridge-run-2012 and in the ROTC building main lobby ($10).

The Michigan Tech Lode is looking for staff writers!

Staff Writers will write one story per week for the News, Pulse, Opinion or Sports section of the Michigan Tech Lode.  Staff Writers will also attend a weekly meeting with their respective Section Editor.  No previous experience is required as each writer will work closely with their Section Editor.  Pay for stories ranges from $12-24.

Swing Club Lessons

Swing Club is starting its free beginner Lindy I class, which is a four week lesson series meant to teach the basics of Lindy-Hop, one of the original forms of swing dance. The first lesson will be held in the Alumni Lounge of the MUB from 6:30-8:00pm with open dancing to follow. No partner or previous experience is required.

Tutors Needed!

The BRIDGE Alternative High School is looking for volunteers to help tutor students in the areas of Math, Science, and English.  The hours needed are Monday – Thursdays from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  The tutoring lab is located at 110 E. Quincy St. in Hancock.

Interested students can contact Trish Sherman at the BRIDGE school at 906-482-0828 or at 906-370-6424.  Any help students could provide would be greatly appreciated, even if it was just for an hour or two a week.

Volunteers Needed for a Michigan Tech Preschool Fundraiser

The Michigan Tech Preschool is hosting a fundraiser at the SDC on Saturday, October 6 in the Multi Purpose room and is open to the entire community – including all ages up to high school, college students, and adults.  The event is a carnival theme with moon walks, inflatable slides, velcro wall, boxing ring, etc.
