1. TONIGHT: MUB Board Presents, “The Norman Magician Experience”
MUB Board hosting magic show on Friday, January 16 at 8:00 PM in the MUB Ballroom. Norman combines original and amazing magic tricks with his unique style of story telling, action, and audience interaction. The audience is invited to a world where anything is possible.
The show is an exciting fusion of magic, comedy, and audience participation! It features never before seen magic, laugh out loud comedic situations and the best part!….it stars you the audience!
2. Comedian, Brian O’Sullivan. Performing on 1/17
Student Activities hosting comedian Brian O’Sullivan on Saturday, January 17 at 10:00 PM in the MUB Ballroom. Brian O’Sullivan is a singing comedian inspired by artists such as “Weird Al” Yankovic and Bo Burnham. He has a special niche for making fun of pop culture from a college student’s perspective. Making fun of everything from Facebook to Tinder to college procrastination, all while poking fun of artists like Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, O’Sullivan’s show is for anyone with a funny bone in their body.

4. Rail Transportation Program Meeting and Guest Speaker
The Railroad Engineering & Activities Club (REAC) will be holding a meeting on January 22 at 7:00 PM in Fisher 131. There will be a guest speaker, Mike Logan, from EL&S Car Repair Shop, so it is highly recommended that Mechanical Engineering students attend.
There will be a drawing for a $75 gift card to the bookstore and, as always, pizza and pop provided.

5. The Russian National Ballet Theatre to Present Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake”
Michigan Technological University’s Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts presents two magical nights of incomparable Russian ballet. Direct from Moscow, the Russian National Ballet Theatre, featuring fifty of Russia’s finest dancers, will perform Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake,” on Thursday, January 15, and Friday, January 16, at 7:30 PM each evening.

Tuesday, January 20: Probation and getting back in good academic standing.
This session will discuss the conditions of academic probation and how to get back into good standing. It will also discuss resources and strategies to encourage ongoing academic success.
Wednesday, January 21: Procrastination, prioritization, motivation and organization: Get time on your side.
Time management is really effective self-management. Understand how to avoid time wasting pitfalls, and learn the tools to help you make the most effective use of your time.
Thursday, January 22: Work Smarter, Not Harder.
NOTE: This is in MUB Ballroom A1
Participants attending this session will become familiar with metacognitive awareness (“thinking about thinking”), will learn to develop learning goals and how to make adjustments to be more academically successful.

The Quiz Bowl Club at Michigan Tech is hosting its 1st Annual Pop Culture Tournament!

11. Portage Lake Lift Bridge Closures
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close the US-41/M-26 Portage Lake Lift Bridge between Houghton and Hancock for 10 hours beginning at 9:00 pm Saturday, January 17. The bridge is scheduled to reopen at 7:00 am Sunday, January 18. The hockey game on Saturday, January 17 has been moved to 5:07 pm to accommodate Huskies fans north of the bridge. In case of a weather delay, an alternate bridge closure date of January 24 has been set.
CHANGE IN SCHEDULE FOR SHORT CLOSURES. The contractor has notified MDOT the previously announced four two-hour closures for January 20, 21, 22, and 23 from 2:00 am to 4:00 am will need to be rescheduled. The two-hour closures will be announced at a later date.
In addition to the January 17 closure, motorists should expect:
- Nearly 170 intermittent 15- to 20-minute closures from January to March, between the hours of 7:00 pm and 6:00 am.
- One 11-and-a-half-hour closure March 21 from 9:00 pm to 8:30 am with an alternate date of March 28 in case of weather delay.
