Make A Difference Day 2021 Registration is OPEN!

Registration for Make a Difference Day 2021 is now open! Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of community service in which students, faculty, and staff come together to serve our community. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, October 23 from 9am-1pm.
Join the Michigan Tech community in giving back to our local area by volunteering for a local organization, agency, or community member! Volunteer projects will vary based on the needs of partner organizations. Painting, weeding, planting, digging, raking, cleaning, organizing, and moving are all likely projects that we have seen in the past. Register here to be assigned to a service site.
Check-in will start at 9AM in the MUB Ballroom. Information packets will be distributed and from there, groups will travel to service locations. Projects may require that groups drive to the location.

PLEASE NOTE: Each member of your organization/group must register individually for Make a Difference Day. The final deadline to register is Monday, October 18th at 10 AM

Open Skate and Free Skate Rental at the SDC

Join MTU Athletics and Recreation in celebrating the grand opening and dedication of the Skate Rental Center this Saturday, October 16, at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Located on the ice level, the Skate Rental Center will have a full inventory of skates and helmets in youth and adult sizes and will also provide skate sharpening services.

Festivities will kick off at 12:30 pm with a dedication ceremony in honor of Charlotte Jenkins and Cheryl DePuydt. Jenkins, an undergraduate student and resident assistant who had a passion for skating, was known for offering extra skates to friends, residents, or anyone looking to learn to skate. DePuydt was an ardent supporter of MTU Athletics throughout her life; helping start women’s athletics at the university and forming the MTU Skating Academy. Cheryl’s contributions to Michigan Tech are still felt today, especially when it comes to skating and women’s athletics. Those unable to attend may view a live stream of the dedication. The link to the live stream of the dedication ceremony is https://michigantech.zoom.us/j/84243721930

The dedication ceremony will be followed by an open skate with free skate rental during the event.

Library Haunted House/Resource Fair

The library will be hosting a haunted house / resource fair with the theme “Don’t be Afraid to Ask Us!” We are inviting student groups who have an interest in connecting their peers with wellness and mental-health resources to have a table at this event.

How will this look?

As of right now, we’re planning to give each participating group a chunk of space (this may be a study room, a table, or a library classroom) that they can decorate and use as they’d like to promote both this theme and to get a little spooky.

When will this take place?

We’re planning on October 26. However, because this is so student-focused, we’d like to hear more from you about what time of day would be ideal!

How do I get involved?

Please complete this google form by the end of Monday of next week (October 11). Please feel free to share this with other student orgs in your orbit!
