MUB Board’s Casino Night

Join MUB for a night of fun and prizes! You will be given a bag of chips, it’s up to you how to use them. Cash them in to enter our raffle, or try to win more at our Blackjack, Texas hold ’em and Roulette tables. Don’t worry if you run out, there will be a photo booth set up so you can get some Vegas-themed pictures with a group. You can also just enjoy some free snacks and mocktails while you hang out and play games with your friends for fun!

41 North Film Festival this Weekend!

The annual 41 North Film Festival begins this Thursday and runs through Sunday, 11/7, at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts. The festival offers a great opportunity to watch thought-provoking, entertaining, and award-winning films from around the world that explore a range of issues, ideas, and personalities. Along with over 30 films in the program this year, there will be special guests and attractions, and live music in the lobby between films. The festival is free — just bring your student I.D. and your friends!


3MT Finals

The Graduate Student Government (GSG) at Michigan Tech is pleased to announce this year’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. In this prestigious academic competition, participants are judged on their communication and presentation skills while delivering their research in just three minutes with one static PowerPoint slide. 

With 33 participants and 3 different heats, 9 finalists have been chosen for the final rounds. You can find more information on the finalists on our website. The preliminary rounds will be held at the MUB ballroom from 1pm to 4pm. The finalists will compete on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Orpheum Theater in Hancock. Shuttle service will be available from the MUB to the Orpheum Theater leaving at 5:30pm and Orpheum Theater to the MUB at 8:30pm.

The first and second place winners will receive cash prizes of $300 and $150 respectively. Additionally, a People’s Choice (PC) award will be given to a speaker selected by the event’s audience, with a cash prize of $100. An online voting poll will be set-up for the People’s Choice award.

Grab some pizza from Studio Pizza and join us in-person (or virtually) to listen to graduate students presenting their research in just Three Minutes!


Pajama Drive

The Barbara Kettle Gundlach Women’s Shelter is in need of pajama donations for children size toddler – age 12 and adult size small – 2XL. November 7th-12th Order of Omega, Society of Women Engineers, and Society of Intellectual Sisters will be tabling on campus to accept pajama donations and monetary donations for the shelter. If you cannot make it in person but would like to help out, you can venmo Tessa-Mlinar or use the QR code located on the poster.

The more you can demonstrate how your innovation works, the better your understanding of the solution and the more informative feedback will be. Join Husky Innovate for an interactive workshop to learn how to prototype your innovation and test it for “customer” feedback. Prototyping can range from simple to complex. This workshop focuses on building a mock-up of your idea so that you may present it and gather feedback. The Michigan Tech community, students, alumni, and friends are invited to join us for a Husky Innovate virtual talk with Dr. Brad King, Michigan Tech Professor, CEO, and Founder of Orbion Space Technology, Houghton Michigan. 

Dr. King will share his journey as an entrepreneur and how he and his team have addressed key entrepreneurial challenges and what’s next for Orbion.

Accomplished aerospace researcher, Michigan Tech Professor L. Brad King took his satellite thruster technology to market when he co-founded Orbion Space Technology in 2016. Orbion’s satellite thruster technology addresses a key need within the space industry by providing a cost-effective way to efficiently maneuver satellites. Orbion’s innovative technology provides the right value proposition for space industry stakeholders.   

This discussion will take place virtually over Zoom.
