We’re in the process of planning Welcome Week and K-Day, but we need your help to pick a theme! We want to make sure it’s something that everyone will enjoy and remember for years to come.
Here are our top two theme ideas:
- Classic Board Games – Life, Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders
- Nautical Themes – Welcome Aboard, Anchor Away

Spring Fling RSO Registration
Spring Fling has returned and this time we’re going back to the Renaissance. Make sure you are a part of the festivities by reserving a booth for your student organization. Registration is open now and closes on Monday, April 3rd at 11:59 pm.

African Night 2023

African Night is an event that celebrates the rich and diverse culture of Africa, bringing together people from all walks of life to experience the unique traditions, music, dance, and fashion. It provides an opportunity for students, faculties, and members of the general public to experience the unique flavors and aromas of various cuisine, with a wide range of traditional dishes and delicacies of the African continent.
The program also features awards ceremonies to honor individuals that have made significant contributions to the promotion and preservation of African culture and heritage.

MHA and HPA’s Annual Vegas Night!
Come one! Come all! McNair Hall Association and Hillside Place Association’s annual Vegas Night is taking place this Saturday April 1st from 8pm-11:30pm in Fisher Hall! Taking place over the entire first floor, this free event will give you the chance to play games like Blackjack, Texas Hold’em, Roulette, Bingo, and Kahoots for the chance to earn tickets that can be turned in for the chance to win some amazing prizes! In addition to the gaming fun, there will also be a free showing of the movie, Rush Hour (thank you Film Board!). Want to earn more tickets? Bring up to 2 nonperishable food items for 1 raffle ticket each, or up to 2 clothing items (jackets, pants, shirts, and shoes) for up to 10 raffle tickets per clothing donation!
This event is run by wonderful volunteers and we still have several key spots that need to be filled! If you do not know how to run a casino game – do not worry! We have two training sessions later this week. Join us Thursday, March 30th from 7:00 PM- 8:00 PM in the West McNair Glass Lounge or Saturday, April 1st from 6:30 PM- 7:30 PM in Fisher Hall’s first floor! This event will count for service hours, so please consider signing up to be a volunteer!

Showcase your nature-themed art and music!
During Earth Week (April 16th – 22nd), Keweenaw Youth for Climate Action is hosting the 2nd Annual Art & Music Festival in the Rosza! Sign up now to perform and display your artwork.
This event is showcasing our compassion for the Earth. We invite visual art and performances (including musicians) inspired by the Earth, nature, sustainability, climate change, liberation, resilience, or Earth Day themed in any way. Each participant will receive $50 for contributing their talents, unless they choose to opt out of payment.

Lego Build Off
Wanna show off your lego building skills? Join us Saturday, April 8th in the MUB Ballroom. Compete in teams of 3-5 to build your lego masterpiece with 800 pieces and 90 minutes! Winners will receive a lego set!
Canterbury House Food Pantry
Let Canterbury House help you alleviate the burden of purchasing food! We offer contactless and anonymous pick-up of groceries and toiletries to the Michigan Tech Community at The Canterbury House at 1405 E. Houghton Ave. To place an order and select a pick-up time, fill out the Google Form at any time. Popular supplies may run out, but we will try our best to meet your needs. Feel free to stop inside and meet our students as well! Our house hours are 10am-4pm Monday-Thursday.
Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale

Join the Friends of the Library for our annual book sale with proceeds benefitting the Michigan Tech Library. Tens of thousands of books on sale for 50¢ to $2, and all fiction half price. Some higher specially priced local and/or antiquarian items as well as old yearbooks for $1 (most years since the 1950s available).
Thursday is the pre-sale for FMTL members and all students may attend for free! Friday is open to all, and also Friday from 3-4 is a bag sale where you can fit all you can into a brown grocery bag (provided) for only $5!
All proceeds benefit the library. Cash, check, and card accepted [sorry, no Venmo or PayPal — the University won’t let us 🙁 ]
Celebrating Iranian New Year (Nowruz)
The Iranian community at Michigan Tech celebrates the new year (Nowruz) to share the Iranian new year tradition at Michigan Tech. Everyone is invited to join us to celebrate the beginning of spring together. This year our event includes an Iranian banquet, traditional dance performances by our organization members, Iranian live music by a music rock star invited from London, and stand-up comedy by a comedian invited from California. Our event is on April 2nd, 6-9 pm, followed by a one-hour fun after-party.
Tickets are sold at MUB commons, March 27th until 31st, or until we sell out. The last event sold out on the third day of selling tickets, so if you plan to come, please get your ticket earlier. Students can get tickets for $15 and non-student tickets are $25.

Winter Carnival 2024 Logo Contest
The theme for Winter Carnival 2024 is here! Blue Key needs your help in designing a fun, unique, logo for the upcoming Winter Carnival that embodies the following theme: “From Forests to Shores, We Love the Outdoors!”
Entry forms will be available at the front desks in the dorms or in the Blue Key office in MUB 106. You can also access the form through this link. Logo design entries can be submitted to bluekey@mtu.edu or dropped off in the office.
It can be digitally designed or hand-drawn, whichever suits your artistic ability better! All logo designs need to be in by April 16th at noon in order to be voted on.

Summer Study Away in England!
Join us on our Summer Track B Study abroad in England!! We still have several slots available, but *you need to apply this week*. Your $500 program deposit (applied toward the program fee) will be due on April 1.
The deadline for the 2023 Summer Track B Cumbria, England Study Abroad program has been extended! Join us in this four-week, six-credit program (July 16 to Aug. 12) for an amazing opportunity to explore England’s northwestern borderlands, including ancient stone circles, Roman forts, and Medieval castles and cathedrals, all while taking in contemporary English and Scottish culture!

Last WIBIT Wednesday of the Spring Semester
It’s the LAST WIBIT WEDNESDAY of the spring semester!
Come make a splash with our inflatable pool obstacle course called the WIBIT! You can test your individual skills on the course or challenge your friend to a race across the obstacles. Events will be held this spring for current MTU Students and SDC Access Pass Holders (minimum 1-month). Student/Access ID is required to be presented upon entry into the pool area and a swim test is required before accessing the obstacle.

OAP is Hiring for Summer 2023!
The Outdoor Adventure Program is hiring for summer 2023! We are looking for adventure-minded students who are staying in Houghton this summer and want to work with the OAP!
We offer a variety of positions including working the equipment rental desk, the climbing wall and high and low ropes course, biking, paddling, and more! We are looking for people who want to work outside and are available on weekends as well.
Training and relevant certifications will be provided, as well as discounts or rental equipment!

Plant Sale
Hello! The Women in Natural Resources club will be holding our annual Plant Sale on April 19th and 20th, from 10am-2pm! This event will be held in the atrium of the U.J. Noblet Forestry building, just up the road from the main campus. We will be selling houseplants, succulents, herbs, pots, handmade macrame, and more! Items will be available for purchase in person during the time of the event, or you may pre-order on our website a week prior to the event (link in our Instagram bio, @winr_at_mtu).
