Alumni Welcome Event
The Office of Alumni Engagement is hosting a brief New Alumni Welcome immediately before both the Graduate and Undergraduate commencement rehearsals on Thursday, April 27 in the SDC Multipurpose Room for our Spring 2023 graduates. Be sure to arrive at your respective rehearsal a few minutes early to sign the class flag, receive your alumni welcome gift, and enjoy a treat!
Host an Event during O-Week or Welcome Week!
Each year Registered Student Organizations are invited to host events during Orientation Week and Welcome Week in order to introduce themselves to the campus community and welcome their peers to campus. The audience for Orientation Week is primarily first-year students, while events for Welcome Week should be designed for any member of the student body. This year:
- O-Week is August 20th-25th
- Welcome Week is August 26th-September 2nd
You must complete this form in order to request to host an event during either week. Events planned through this form will be included in official Orientation or Welcome Week promotional materials.
Please contact Orientation at orientation@mtu.edu for questions regarding O-Week or Student Leadership and Involvement at activities@mtu.edu for questions regarding Welcome Week. This form will close on May 31st.
Congratulations to this year’s President’s Volunteer Service Award Recipients!
Michigan Tech became a certifying organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award earlier this year because we realized that many of our students were already meeting or exceeding the requirements each year. Any student who tracks their verifiable service hours on our service website, GivePulse each year will be eligible to receive the award. This year four individuals have received this honor.
First, we have two bronze-level awardees whose service exceeded 100 hours.
Congratulations to:
- Kayley Elmbald, who served as an active member of the National Ski Patrol and as a volunteer instructor for the Outdoor Emergency Care course.
- And to Meg Pomranka, who served as a volunteer coach with her High School Color Guard team.
We also have two recipients who have received gold-level honors for over 250 service hours completed. Congratulations to:
- Kaitlyn Brady, who served as a volunteer assistant athletic trainer with Michigan Tech athletics.
- And to Ryan Michael, who served as a counselor at Camp Ao-Wa-Kiya this past summer.

The concert also explores the “new world” experienced by Antonin Dvorak, when he first visited America, in his nostalgically beautiful New World Symphony.

Finals Week with the Van Pelt and Opie Library
The end of the semester often comes with a lot of stress. The Library wants to help! Along with campus partners, we are planning things to help ease that stress, take much-needed breaks, and tackle your studies.
- Pet Photos: Enjoy pictures of you and your friends’ pets up on our digital displays while you study. – First and Second Floors, Library
- Brain Break Stations: give your brain some time off with games, coloring, snacks, and other odds and ends to fidget with. – First and Second Floors, Library

DEA Drug Takeback
The National Prescription Drug Take Back day is April 22, 2023. MTU Public Safety will be available on campus to accept any and all prescription drugs that might be expired or unused. This is a safe and responsible way to dispose of your prescription medication and we encourage you to seek out a Public Safety officer!
Fruit Table
Our counselors are setting up a fruit table on Monday the 24th for students in the Library! Come grab a study snack and chat with our counselors about resources as needed!
Capture Your Adventure
For the 3rd year in a row, our Center is putting on the Capture Your Adventure challenge for the summer! Learn more about how to participate on social media by going to our CYA webpage. You can expect to win prizes like a National Parks pass for the United States!
Jazz Night
With finals right around the corner, take some time to relax with some live jazz music! The Back Room Boys is a local jazz and polka band that will be playing for us Saturday night. This event has free entry, but a $5 donation would be greatly appreciated! Whether you’re an experienced dancer or not, everyone is welcome to attend and join in on the fun! You can learn some new moves that very same night!
