Are you graduating this semester? Consider donating your cap and gown to future graduates! The Husky Closet Collective is starting a Gowns for Grads program. This will allow students who cannot purchase a cap and gown to walk in the Commencement ceremony. There will be donation bins at Commencement, or you can drop your cap and gown off at the Housing Office (153W Wads) any time.

Volunteers Needed for Virtual Reality (VR) Research Experiment
Michigan Technology students, staff, and surrounding community are solicited for participation in a perception experiment being conducted by faculty and students of the Department of Computer Science. The experiments involve viewing and moving around in computer-generated “virtual reality” environments or “real” environments and making perceptual judgments.
To participate in this experiment you must be between 18 and 35, have normal or corrected-to-normal vision, no history of epilepsy or seizures, and the ability to walk without impairment.
Participants will be compensated for their time. Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants may withdraw from the experiment at any time without penalty.

Crowdsourcing Tick Project at MTU
The Genomic Sequencing lab wants ticks from you, your family, and your pets. The goal of this project is to identify the prevalence of tick-borne illnesses in the copper country. Starting May 1st and ending September 30th please bring any ticks you find to the collection boxes on the MTU campus:
1. U.J. Noblet Forestry Building– Main Entrance
2. Great Lakes Research Center, 100 Phoenix Dr – Building Lobby
The collection begins May 1st and ends September 30th.
How to remove and preserve ticks
1. Use clean, fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible.
2. Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Don’t twist or jerk the tick; this can cause the mouth-parts to break off and remain in the skin. If this happens, remove the mouth-parts with tweezers. If you cannot remove the mouth easily with tweezers, leave it alone and let the skin heal.
3. After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol or soap and water.
4. Never crush a tick with your fingers. Dispose of a live tick by
- Placing it in a sealed bag ziploc bag, multiple ticks from the same location source can be placed in the same bag
- Bring tick into drop off point within 8 hours or place tick in a sealed bag, in freezer until dropping off at Michigan Tech
5. Drop off points at MTU:
- U.J. Noblet Forestry Building– Main Entrance
- Great Lakes Research Center, 100 Phoenix Dr – Building Lobby
6. Follow directions at the dropoff site to ensure the tick is properly preserved.
