Homecoming 2023
Team and court registration are closed, but you can still participate in several Homecoming events next week! Join the Tech Traditions Committee for:
- Pi Mile – Come kick off homecoming by running a 5k (3.14 miles) with the brothers of Triangle Fraternity! Everyone who completes the course can celebrate their achievement by pie-ing a brother! The run is Sunday, September 24 at 10:00 AM. More information can be found in the link above.
- Shirt Swap is a great way to give back! If you donate an item from the lists in the link, we will give you a 2023 Homecoming Shirt while sizes and shirts last. This event is open to everyone so stop by the MUB Circle at 2 pm on September 25th to help us spread kindness and school spirit!
- Mingle and Fun at the Center for Diversity and Inclusion! Hangout and enjoy relaxing fun with fellow students, staff, and faculty on Monday, September 25 at 4:00 PM!
- Cardboard Boats are always worth coming to watch! Friday, September 29 at 4:00 PM at Kestner Waterfront Park
- Homecoming Tailgate FREE food and fun from 11 AM-1 PM in Lot 24 near the Kearly Stadium entrance on Saturday, September 30
- Homecoming Game vs Davenport University and Court Crowning at 1 PM on Sherman Field on Saturday, September 30.
Homecoming Week is less than a week away! To make this Michigan Tech Tradition a success, we need volunteers to jump in and help us with the fun! We have two events we’d love to have help with. First, Tuesday, September 26 from Noon to 1:00PM is the Puppy Pop-UP (Homecoming theme is 101 Huskies). We need doggies and their owners to help drum up excitement. If you have time and a dog who loves excessive petting and other dogs, please sign up on this Google form.
Next, we need volunteers on Friday, September 29th to make Cardboard Boat Races a success. MUB Room Reservation Software Transition
The Memorial Union Building (MUB) has transitioned their room request software to 25Live Pro effective last Monday (Sept. 11). This transition is part of a University-wide effort to create a one-stop shop for room requests across campus. The Memorial Union is the first venue to implement 25Live Pro, which will allow users to view spaces across campus in the future.
All reservations have been transferred from the previous system into 25Live Pro. To view your current/future reservations, you will need to first sign into 25Live Pro using your Michigan Tech ISO to activate your user ID.
Please visit the Memorial Union Room Reservation page to access the system. Once your username has been activated, please email your name and department name to business-support@mtu.edu so we can add your username to your reservations. Please remember to update your room reservation bookmark link in your web browser.
A training aid has been created to assist you in using the system. It is located under the Resources section on the Room Reservations page.

Free MATLAB Workshop
Women in Physics is hosting a MATLAB workshop that is available to anyone who is interested. It is a 7 week course that will begin with the basic interface of MATLAB, and then will gradually proceed into various applications that are used by professionals.
MATLAB is a programming language that is used in numerous fields, such as engineering, physics, and data analysis. This workshop will help you develop a working knowledge of the language and give you a strong foundation for its implementation in future projects.
The sessions will be held every Saturday (October 7 – December 2) at 2pm over zoom.
If you do not have access to a computer, there will be a designated computer lab on campus that will stream the zoom sessions.

Alpha Psi Omega
Pokemon League Tournament
The first in-person tournament for the semester will be Sunday, September 24th starting at 5 pm EST in Walker 109. This will be on Scarlet/Violet cartridges and the format will be monotype singles. Pokemon or moves from the DLC mons will not be allowed since it hasn’t been released for that long. Pokemon that could be transferred from home before the DLC can be used as long as all members of the team share the same type. For more information please contact rgjahn@mtu.edu.
Great Northern Adventure Race
The Great Northern Adventure Race (G.N.A.R.) is a full-day race for extreme athletes looking to test their athletic ability and mental toughness. Combining multiple outdoor disciplines, including but not limited to paddling, cycling, and running; racers are pushed to demonstrate both their problem-solving and mental toughness capabilities. The completion of mini-activities at the end of each leg will award racers clues to their next locations.
You are responsible for your in-race nutrition and hydration.
$25/person or $50/team race fee includes both a t-shirt and post-race meal.
Prizes will be awarded to top finishers.
Sustainability Open House
The tenants of the Sustainability Demonstration House would like to invite you to our upcoming Sustainability Open House on Saturday, September 30 from 2-5 p.m.! We will have interactive demos of our sustainable systems (including composting, hydroponics, aquaponics, a solar array, a beehive, energy-efficient appliances, a zero-waste household, and many more) and fun sustainability games. We hope you will be able to stop by!
The Sustainability Demonstration House is located at 21680 Woodland Rd, just down the road from East McNair. Parking is available at East McNair, Hillside, and Lot 10E.

Erin Hoffman is an artist and printmaker from Muskegon, Michigan, who deals primarily with political and social concerns. Through the presentation of mismatched ideas and assemblages, her art serves as a prompt for critical thought and new conclusions.

Rail Transportation Program First-Year Scholarships
The Michigan Tech Rail Transportation Program is again offering up to four scholarships to first year students!
Each scholarship is $500, student should complete the application if they are interested.
These scholarships are renewable during a student’s second, third, and fourth year at Tech, if the student meets some basic participation requirements. The renewed amount increases by $500 in the second and third year. The attached flyer provides more detail.
Identity Campaign – REHS
For the next two weeks Residence Education and Housing Services is hosting an Identity Campaign. Take a look at our social media to reflect on what identities you hold and how they interact with others. We are hosting an Identity Carnival on Thursday, September 28 at 3:00pm on Walker Lawn. There will be outdoor games, carnival snacks, and conversations about what identities we hold.
Research Study Looking for Participants
We are looking for people to participate in an automated driving research study. You will complete three simulated semi-autonomous driving tasks and be asked to complete surveys about your driving experiences.
The experiment session will take approximately 90 minutes, and you will receive $20 for your time. Your identity will remain confidential. Participation is voluntary.
Additionally, you must meet the following requirements:
You must be between the ages of 18-30 years.
You must have a valid U.S. driver’s license with at least two years of driving experience in the U.S.
You do not wear glasses and have normal or correct-to-normal vision with contact lenses.
The study was approved by MTU IRB.

Michigan Tech Indoor Range Bullseye Shooting League
There is still time to register for the Fall Indoor Range Bullseye Shooting League! Hurry, registration closes September 24!!!
Michigan Tech Indoor Range Bullseye Shooting League allows for a great time shooting with friends and family with just a little competition mixed in. Ten sessions will be held on Sundays from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Rules are simple, and you can practice during the range posted Public times. All scoring targets will be shot in one continuous string of fire. You may shoot as an individual, with a 2-man team, or both. Open to MTU students and the general public.

SDC Shooting RangeSpecial Requirements
- Minimum age 10 years old. Adult supervision is required for all range users under the age of 18.
- You may use any handgun you want with any sighting system.

- Shooters may choose to shoot one or two-handed.
- Eye and ear protection
