Friday, September 29
- Cardboard Boats are always worth coming to watch! Friday, September 29 at 4:00 PM at Kestner Waterfront Park.
- Women’s Soccer takes on Davenport University at 6 PM at Kearly Stadium
- Fans in the Stands support the Women’s Volleyball Team as they take on Lake Superior State. The Homecoming team with the most spirit will also win points for the team competition. The game starts at 7 PM in the Wood Gym.
Saturday, September 30
- Homecoming Tailgate features FREE food and fun from 11 AM-1 PM in Lot 24 near the Kearly Stadium entrance
- Homecoming Football Game vs Davenport University and Court Crowning at 1 PM on Sherman Field
Sunday, October 1
- Women’s Soccer takes on Grand Valley State University at 6 PM at Kearly Stadium. The teams are currently tied for first place in the GLIAC standings

Registration is now open for Make A Difference Day 2023!
Make a Difference Day is coming up on Saturday, October 28th, and we want YOU to be involved in our largest annual day of service! Some of the wonderful organizations you may be working with include the Copper Country Humane Society, Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home, Keweenaw Land Trust, and Copper Country Habitat for Humanity. Many of our volunteers are also assigned to support our local community members. Volunteering projects vary based on community needs, but you may find yourself raking, cleaning, organizing, painting, or weeding.
Interested in volunteering for this important event? Register today on GivePulse, our community service website. If you would like to register to volunteer with other members of a group, please enter the group name when signing up. Each member of your organization/group must register individually for Make a Difference Day. The final deadline to register is Sunday, October 22 at 11:59 PM.
Check-in for volunteers will be held in the MUB Commons from 8:30-9:00 AM, where information will be distributed before groups travel to their service locations. Some locations may require your group to drive.

Join us for an immersive workshop on Building a Brand, where you’ll discover the strategies and insights needed to create a brand that resonates, engages, and leaves a lasting impact. In this interactive workshop, Haley Goodreau of University Marketing and Communications will guide you through the essential components of crafting a brand that not only stands out but also fosters loyalty and growth. Topics will include brand identity essentials, visual branding, and design, crafting your story, and engaging with your audience.

Office Hours with Joe Corso
Are you working on a pitch or business model for your new venture? Do you have an innovative idea? In his free time, Joe Corso mentors entrepreneurs at a local Austin, TX business accelerator. Corso, a Michigan Tech alum, has an impressive career leading new initiatives throughout his corporate career. Joe is excited to mentor our Husky Innovate startup teams in order to help them move their ideas forward. These meetings will be held regularly throughout the year.
This fall we will meet online from 4:00 – 5:00 pm est, on 9/26, 10/19, 11/9, and 11/30. Select the date(s) that you would like attend. Spots for Office Hours are limited and based on availability. We will follow up with a Zoom link to confirm.
Joe Corso bio: Joe is Founder and President of TouchPoint Inc. where he provides management consulting to various technology companies in the Austin area. Prior to that, Joe has held executive management positions at IBM, Picture Network International (sold to Kodak), Dazel (sold to HP), AlterPoint and Mirage Networks. Joe is an accomplished speaker, advisor, mentor and board member who values the professional and personal relationships he has built with colleagues throughout the years. Joe holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. When he is not spending time with cool technology companies and teams, he enjoys making sawdust in his woodworking shop and driving his Porsche Cayman S, fondly named “Piglet”, on racetracks across Texas.
Idea Pitch Competition
Do you have an innovative idea that could disrupt the status quo and “business as usual”. Each contestant will have two minutes to share their idea in an interactive community setting. Judges will vote on top ideas and we will award cash prizes.

Copper Country Snowsports Club Winter Gear Swap
After a short hiatus, the ski swap at Mont Ripley is back! The swap is a fundraiser for the Copper Country Snowsports Club (formerly Mont Ripley Race Team).
Gather your gear to sell, and drop it off Friday, October 6th from 5-8 pm at the Mont Ripley Chalet. If you are looking at shopping for winter gear, normal sale hours will be 11-2 on October 7th with an early bird hour from 10-11am.

Orange Shirt Day
The American Indian Science and Engineering Society at Michigan Tech invites the campus community to participate in Orange Shirt Day on September 30th.
Originating from Canada in 2013, Orange Shirt Day (also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation) is a holiday that recognizes the legacy of Indian residential school systems both in the United States and Canada. Under the residential school system, hundreds of thousands of Native children were stripped from their families between the 1880s and the 1970s. These children were brought to federal or religious residential schools, where they were assimilated through abusive and destructive means that were meant to break them of their cultures, languages, and spiritualities.
By participating in Orange Shirt Day, we are recognizing the legacy of the residential school system by honoring the survivors and those children whose lives were taken from them by the residential school systems. So, join us on September 30th by wearing an orange shirt and declaring that “Every Child Matters.”
MUB Board presents
Come play soccer with a massive inflatable bubble around each player! The game is a fun twist on the classic sport that helps level the playing field and can be a great way to exercise and have fun with friends! Refreshments will be provided and it will be free for all students. Show up anytime during the event for some bouncy soccer wipeouts!

Free MATLAB Workshop
Women in Physics is hosting a MATLAB workshop that is available to anyone who is interested. It is a 7 week course that will begin with the basic interface of MATLAB, and then will gradually proceed into various applications that are used by professionals.
MATLAB is a programming language that is used in numerous fields, such as engineering, physics, and data analysis. This workshop will help you develop a working knowledge of the language and give you a strong foundation for its implementation in future projects.
The sessions will be held every Saturday (October 7 – December 2) at 2pm over zoom.
If you do not have access to a computer, there will be a designated computer lab on campus that will stream the zoom sessions.

Paid Research Study Still Looking for Participants
We are looking for people to participate in an automated driving research study. You will complete three simulated semi-autonomous driving tasks and be asked to complete surveys about your driving experiences.
The experiment session will take approximately 90 minutes, and you will receive $20 for your time. Your identity will remain confidential. Participation is voluntary.
Additionally, you must meet the following requirements:
You must be between the ages of 18-30 years.
You must have a valid U.S. driver’s license with at least two years of driving experience in the U.S.
You do not wear glasses and have normal or correct-to-normal vision with contact lenses.
The study was approved by MTU IRB.

What is ARM?
The Michigan Tech Alumni Board of Directors is thrilled to introduce ARM, a program aimed at connecting student organizations with valuable resources from our extensive alumni network. With ARM, the Alumni Board has two paths to help fund student organizations that apply for funding support. First, the Alumni Board still maintains our traditional budgeted contribution (formerly known as SISP) to several applied and qualified organizations, as we always have. Second, early in 2023, we initiated a new crowd-funding path to activate the entire alumni community to donate to additional qualified and selected organizations. With this announcement, we’re kicking off the 2nd crowd-funding campaign.
What We’re Looking For:
- Programs that positively impact students and support the alumni mission of “Celebrating Traditions. Creating Connections.”
- Inclusive initiatives that engage a wide audience
- Actions that support a culture of philanthropy among students
- Requests for knowledge or expertise in a particular area
- Funding proposals for “capital” goods that will leave a lasting impact on the University

2023 Student Voting Summit
The 2023 Student Voting Summit at Anchor Bay High School is a nonpartisan event held annually for high school, college, and university students, educators, administrators, and individuals involved in civic engagement and student voting. This event is hosted by the Michigan Department of State in partnership with the Campus Vote Project. It will take place on Friday, October 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oakland University’s Oakland Center in Rochester, MI. Attendees must register for the event, and there is no registration fee. Lunch will be provided, and attendees can also receive free SWAG. Travel funding is available for those who need it, and you can register for the event at bit.ly/cvpmisummit23.
At the summit, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Connect with peers from across the state to learn about student voting.
- Engage in discussions about civic and youth engagement.
- Gain insights into changes in upcoming elections and voting rights specific to Michigan.
- Meet local and state elected officials.

As a Volunteer Usher, you play a critical role in creating a joyful experience at arts events. Led by Rozsa staff, you and other Ushers work together to greet guests, admit folks into the theater, assist with seating and wayfinding, connect guests to venue accommodations, and support effective crowdflow and emergency procedures. Usher roles will be decided as a team at the beginning of the volunteer shift.
