Student Leadership and Involvement is Hiring!

Are you a proactive and dynamic student looking for an exciting opportunity? Look no further! Student Leadership and Involvement is currently looking for a student worker. This role is a work-study position. Applicants must be eligible to apply and be considered.

General Student Worker – In this role, you can anticipate providing general office assistance such as answering the phone, emails, and questions, assisting with managing social media, and assisting the staff in the office. You can apply and find out more about this position on Handshake.


Spring Involvement Fair RSO Sign-Up Deadline is Today!

The Spring Involvement Fair – an event to connect students to organizations – will take place on the first and second floor of the Memorial Union Building (MUB) on Tuesday, January 23rd from 4 -7 pm. The theme this year is “Clear the Gloom, Find your Bloom”! 

Please reserve your organization’s spot in the fair by TODAY AT 11:59PM. You will receive a confirmation email shortly after the 10th containing your organization’s table number. Please have your activities planned before filling out this registration- indoor-appropriate activities are permitted.  

Keep in mind, space is limited. Organizations are not permitted to bring in food or beverages apart from prepackaged non-perishable items. Orgs cannot charge for giveaways such as apparel, a raffle, a fundraiser, etc.  

By filling in your contact information, you will be the primary contact for your organization for Spring Involvement Fair. Please be sure to check your email regularly in the weeks leading up to the event for important announcements and information.

HuskyLead: Student Organization Budgeting

Budgeting for student organizations can be difficult. Explore sources of funding for your group, develop a working budget to track funds, and understand financial rules for RSOs at MTU. To get the most out of this workshop we recommend bringing your org’s e-board!


Catalyst

Catalyst is a one-day program focused on learning to develop your own authentic path, connect to groups and causes you care about, and commit to a plan to be a catalyst for yourself and the groups you’re part of. A catalyst starts something. It provokes change or action. You can be a catalyst. Join other student leaders who also want to start something extraordinary for small-group discussion, large-group interaction, and personal reflection.

All participants will receive free workshop materials, lunch, and a participation gift.

RSVPs must be received by the end of the day on Sunday, January 14th to ensure adequate program supplies.


Visit Puerto Rico or Florida on an Alternative Spring Break this February!

Join a group of your peers and experience a new community this Spring Break! A few spots are still available for both Alternative Spring Break trips which are planned and led by Student Leadership and Involvement staff. During an ASB trip students participate in hands-on service activities, exploration, and reflection as they get to know a community outside the Keweenaw.

This year’s Domestic ASB trip will travel to St. Joe, Florida. It will be focused on hurricane repair and shoreline cleanup. The group will work alongside several local parks, including TH Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, and the Rish Recreation Area.

In collaboration with Community Collaborations International, this year’s overseas ASB trip will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to work with community organizers on issues such as home repair, forest recovery, and youth development.

There is a nominal fee for participating in an Alternative Spring Break trip. The cost includes transportation throughout the trip, lodging on-site, meals on-site, and service project coordination. The costs per trip, which are subsidized by the Student Activity Fee, are:

St. Joe, Florida – $400
San Juan, Puerto Rico – $1200

Applications for the 2024 Alternative Spring Break trips are now open and will close when all remaining spots are filled. You are encouraged to apply by January 22nd. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and spots could be filled before the deadline.

REHS Resilience Campaign

For week 1 and week 2 of the spring semester, Residence Education and Housing Services (REHS) is hosting a campaign focused on Resilience from a mental health lens. Some of the best ways to develop resilience are: fostering an internal locus of control and growth mindset, maintaining strong social connections, regulating your emotions, and practicing self-compassion (What Is Resilience? VeryWellMind). Resilience means strong mental health! During the campaign, keep an eye on our social media and common areas in the residence halls for passive opportunities to engage.


Rotaract Can & Bottle Drive

The Rotaract Club is having a can-drive pickup. We will be picking up cans (need to fill out the form) from your front door on the morning of Saturday, January 13th between 9:00am – 11:00am. Please have cans placed outside by 9:00 am for efficiency purposes.

Please keep pick-up locations within Hancock and Houghton city limits. (Other locations will be considered based on the amount of cans, you can still fill out the form and we will contact you)

We are fundraising to help support local events that will give back to the community!
