Fall 2024 Blood Drive

Huskies aren’t afraid of hard work – we roll up our sleeves and get the job done!

For more than ten years, we’ve partnered with the American Red Cross to host some very successful blood drives. On September 4th and 5th we are doing it again in the MUB Ballroom from 10 AM-4 PM. At our most successful drive in recent years, we worked together to collect 210 pints of blood. It is heartening to know that together we have accomplished so much good. In light of the nationwide blood shortage, we are setting a goal to go even further this time!

So Huskies, it’s time to make an appointment, roll up your sleeve, and give blood. To schedule your appointment or to learn more, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

Completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire is encouraged to help speed up the donation process. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.

A blood donor card, driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.

Reminder About Pronoun and Preferred Name Options

You can choose how you want to be identified on campus. Here are the details:

  1. Your Name, Your Way: Want to go by a different first name? You can update that in our system.
  2. Pronoun Power: You can select your pronouns too! It’s super easy to do.
  3. Totally Optional: This is 100% up to you. You do you!
  4. Quick and Easy: It only takes a minute to update your info.
  5. Respect is Key: If someone shares their pronouns, it’s good to use them. It’s all about treating each other with respect.
  6. Work in Progress: We know our current pronoun list might not cover everything, but it’s a start!

Remember, your identity is your business, and we’re here to help you express it if you want to.

Additional resources are available for those who want to learn more. Need help or have other questions? Stop by the Center for Diversity and Inclusion, the Dean of Student Office, or send us an email at belonging@mtu.edu.

Parade of Nations

Every year Michigan Tech hosts the Parade of Nations to celebrate the different nationalities represented in the Keweenaw.  In the past, volunteers played an important role in making this event successful, and this year is no exception. The Parade of Nations committee is looking for people to help out with such tasks as distributing and carrying parade banners, checking in parade participants, and organizing lines at the international food festival. We are so grateful for all of our volunteers. This year’s parade is on September 21st.
You can sign up as a volunteer here!

If needed, you can submit an Impact through GivePulse to track any service hours.

Your organization can also create a parade float and participate in the parade. Find out more details here!

Intramural Sports

Coming Up on GivePulse

Support Michigan Tech Athletics!

At Michigan Tech, we’re not just about football, basketball, hockey, and volleyball; we’re about fostering a vibrant and inclusive community where everyone has a place to belong. Our games aren’t just about winning; they’re about celebrating the spirit of competition, camaraderie, and the pure joy of sports.

Support your Tech Tradition

K-Day typically sees around 3,500-4,000 students participate, so we can’t host it on our own! We rely on student volunteers to assist with tasks such as set-up, check in, bag distribution, risk management, and food monitoring.

Volunteers are asked to check in for their shift five minutes early at the Student Leadership and Involvement table near the park entrance,

*Note that if you have classes from 8am-Noon of K-Day, you can not sign up for those shifts as this event does not excuse you from attending your classes.
