Welcome to the Sustainability in Sweden study abroad blog. Here, we will share our travels and adventures with you: exciting things we encounter, new ideas we learn about, and reactions from the students while we are away.
Our program is an interdisciplinary adventure that weaves together forest health, climate change, ecology, and the arts. Together, we’re learning how to create community and environmental stewardship in the face of today’s challenges.
We’ve spent the past two weeks preparing for the trip via online classes. Students have been delving into forest ecology, studying climate science, and imagining change-making creative work. We are so lucky to have students from many different disciplines, including ecology, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, forest management, and sound design. The broadness of our group gives us a special chance to bring together many different perspectives – something we need very much as we face caring for the earth.
Some things we’re looking forward to are: a “Sustainable Walk Through Swedish History” at Stockholm’s open-air museum, Skansen; a tour of the Nobel Prize Museum that focuses on environmental Nobel laureates; an immersive community project in the island town of Singö; and Swedish Midsommar.
This is just the beginning of our adventures. Stay tuned! Our students will take turns adding to this blog throughout the trip.
We’ll see you in Sweden,
Lisa, Tara, and Molly
